Holly was already worried enough on Sierra’s behalf. Sierra didn’t want her to worry even more.
By the time they finished talking, it was already late at night.
Just as Sierra was about to work on a freelance illustration before bed, John sent a message.
[I’ll pick Tommy up tomorrow morning.]
Sierra replied, [Didn’t we say Monday?]
John replied, [It’s Youth Day tomorrow.]
Sierra’s fingers stopped.
Of course she remembered it was Youth Day.

Originally, she planned to come home after her morning dance class and decorate the house. Then, she would bake Tommy a cake and surprise him when he got back from his afternoon martial arts class.
But from John’s tone, it was obvious he wanted to make good on what he had promised on Tommy’s birthday about taking him to the amusement park.
John’s message came in. [I’ve helped him apply for leave for his martial arts class tomorrow. What about your dance class?]
Sierra almost asked if they could go in the afternoon instead, since he hadn’t told her about canceling Tommy’s lesson in advance. But then, she thought of everything he had said and done these past two days. She knew asking him would be pointless.
With how forceful he was, he would use this to accuse her of not caring about Tommy, then threaten her with custody again.
After thinking it through, Sierra pulled up Eagon’s number. She hesitated for a moment, but called him anyway and explained the situation.
“I was just thinking about how to bring this up with you,” Eagon said right away. “I didn’t realize that it was tomorrow’s Youth Day last week. I already promised Eden I’d take her out, so tomorrow’s class might just…”
Sierra let out a quiet sigh of relief.
Eagon went on, “Are you free Sunday? We can switch it to Sunday morning if that works.”
“Sure,” Sierra said.
“If Tommy’s on his own, just bring him along,” Eagon added.
Sierra thanked him and ended the call.
Meanwhile, John was still waiting for a reply from Sierra. His long, pale fingers slid over the screen again and again, his eyes darker than the night outside.
“John, can you go out with me tomorrow?” Pamela asked as she kept testing outfits. “I found this really pretty place online. The weather’s perfect tomorrow. It’s the best time to check it out.”
John glanced over. “Tomorrow’s Youth Day. I have to go out with Tommy.”
Pamela’s hand froze around the clothes she was holding, her grip tightening.
Tommy again!
She had been humiliated at dinner because of him. Now tomorrow’s plans were ruined because of him, too!
“It’ll be sunny on the day after tomorrow as well,” John said, getting up and walking over to soothe her. “I’ll go with you then.”

Pamela took the chance to hold his hand and whined, “Then you have to take pictures for me. And we have to take some together, too.”
John’s brows furrowed together before he even realized it.
Pamela shook his arm lightly. “Alright?”
He was just about to answer when his phone buzzed. He took it out and saw a short message from Sierra. [I’ve applied, too.]
Pamela saw it, and it would have been a lie to say she wasn’t jealous.
She had always wanted to make John hers alone, but she also knew he wasn’t someone an ordinary person could control.
He was too sharp. So sharp that every trick of hers was laid bare in front of him.
That was why she stopped messing around so recklessly.
“Is Sierra going too?” Pamela asked, forcing her emotions back down. Her big eyes still held a trace of displeasure.
John didn’t hide anything. “She’s Tommy’s mother. She has to be there for every important day.”
Pamela lowered her head.
There it was again.
Every time, his reasons left her no room to argue. If she refused, she would be the unreasonable one.
Yet, she didn’t dare be too unreasonable. If she made too big a scene, he might finally realize that she had stolen someone else’s place at that time.
