Chapter 146
“You still have me,” Sierra said, shifting Tommy’s attention. “Whatever you want to do, Mom will stay with you and do it until you’re completely worn out!”
Tommy knew Sierra was trying to cheer him up. After rolling his eyes once, he said, “Then let’s go to the haunted house.”
Sierra jabbed a finger against his forehead. “You little rascal.”
They played in the water for more than ten minutes, then moved on to the other water rides. By the time they finished the whole ride, more than an hour had gone by.
Sierra was just about to change Tommy into his dry clothes so he wouldn’t catch a cold when she suddenly remembered that his spare clothes were still in the car John had driven.
She didn’t know if he had driven to the hospital or asked someone to pick him up. She was still thinking about it when a bag of clothes suddenly appeared in front of her.
Sierra stared.
Tommy blinked, too.
Both looked at the hand holding the bag, then at the man in front of them.
“Go on, change your clothes,” John said, pushing the bag closer to her again. His brows furrowed together as he looked at the two soaked troublemakers standing in front of him.
Sierra and Tommy exchanged a look.
Hadn’t they just watched him hurry off earlier?
John took Sierra’s hands and gave the bags to her.
“Go change in the women’s locker room. When you’re done, wait for me at the entrance. I’ll change Tommy into something dry, too.”
“Alright,” Sierra answered without thinking.
John took Tommy by the hand and walked away.
For the first time, he realized the two of them could disappear so quickly. He had only gone out to grab some clothes, and the next thing he knew, they had vanished.
Inside the locker room, Tommy kept sneaking glances at John, his eyes drifting over him again and again.
“If you have something to ask, spit it out,” John said as he used a clean towel to dry the boy off.
Tommy chose his words carefully. “Didn’t you go to the hospital? Why did you come back?”
“When have I gone to the hospital?” John asked.
He paused for a second. So the reason the two of them kept staring at him was that they thought he had gone to the hospital?
“You care about that woman so much, you even divorced Mom because of her,” Tommy said, his young voice soft but clear. “She got in a car accident and was admitted to the hospital. Aren’t you going to see her?”

Tommy liked to think he was more mature than other kids his age in a lot of ways. When it came to his dad, though, he had never understood the man.
“I already said I’m spending my time with you today,” John answered, his mood calm.
Tommy’s disappointment eased, and his frown turned into a small smile. He was secretly delighted. “Then why did you walk off so fast just now?”
“We only have spare clothes for you. I have to ask someone to buy some new clothes for your mom,” John said.
He didn’t expect they would be going into the water today.
His voice was patient and gentle. “There are too many people here. She wouldn’t have been able to find me, went out to get them.”
Tommy understood what was happening now.

John had left in a hurry because he was worried that if he took too long, he would come back and not see them
there.
