Sierra glanced at Tommy, then said a few quiet words to him before standin
g up and following Solomon outside.
In the garden, Sierra went straight to the point. “What do you want to talk about?”
“I have a favor to ask,” Solomon said as he adjusted his glasses. When he looked at her, his manner was gentle and scholarly, making him seem very easy to get along with.
Sierra looked puzzled. She didn’t think there was anything Solomon would need to ask of her.
Seeing what she was thinking, Solomon spoke before she could refuse. “It’s about John. I’d like you to talk to him.
Sierra became even more confused.
“He has been ignoring company business lately,” Solomon said slowly. “He spends all his time at Origin Games and even helped plan their anniversary party. Our parents were very unhappy when they found out.”
“I can’t help you with that.” Sierra turned him down.
For one thing, she and John were in the middle of a divorce. She had no intention of interfering in his affairs.
Even if she did, with the way things stood between them now, he wouldn’t listen to her.
Most importantly, John always did things according to his own plans.
“John is reckless, so I can understand you not wanting to help me.” Solomon’s tone didn’t change. “But he worked very hard to get his position at Henderson Group. It would be a real shame if he were removed because of this.”
Sierra looked at him, her eyes full of confusion. Then, she said bluntly, “If he is removed, shouldn’t you be happy 1 about it?”
She had never taken part in the power struggle between John and Solomon. John didn’t want to burden her with those worries. Even so, she knew about their open and hidden conflicts over control of Henderson Group.
“If he was removed because of a mistake in his work, of course I would be glad about it,” Solomon said, making no effort to hide his own aims. “But if he loses his position over personal feelings, that isn’t a true victory.”
The words “personal feelings” affected Sierra more than she wanted to admit, but she didn’t let it show. Her clear eyes met Solomon without flinching.
“How can you be so sure he will be removed?” she asked.
She knew very well what John was capable of.
He had already defeated Solomon once in their power struggle. This problem was nothing more than a tiny issue for him. There was no way he would be caught unprepared.
“Because our parents have a hold on his weak spot,” Solomon said, looking straight at her.
Sierra didn’t respond at once.
For a moment, she didn’t understand.
“The day Origin Games announced their anniversary party, they went to Henderson Group,” Solomon said, pushing his glasses a little. His tone was still mild. “They threatened him and used your safety to do it.”

Sierra froze.
Noticing how shaken she was, Solomon continued, “I hope you can persuade him to focus on Henderson Group. He has always listened to you.”
“Sorry. I can’t help with that,” Sierra refused without hesitation.
She believed that John’s parents had gone to see him, but threatened him? John never yielded to threats from
anyone.
Seeing how firm she was, Solomon said with a hint of apology, “Sorry for bothering you, then.”
Sierra didn’t answer him and simply went back inside to get Tommy.
She couldn’t quite exactly figure Solomon out. She also couldn’t see the point in his actions. From where she stood, nothing he said today could bring him any benefit.
