Chapter 161

John looked at Pamela and answered, I do. As long as it isn’t illegal.

Pamela decided to stop trying to pretend to be harmless in front of John anymore. She knew that no matter what happened, he would see right through her. I want shares in Sanders Group. I want a bigger share than Holly.

John looked up, and the atmosphere in the hospital ward became heavy.

Meanwhile, on Sierra’s side

After Tommy went to sleep, Sierra kept working on her sketches. Watching the numbers in her bank account climb made her feel much more at ease.

Close to one in the morning, Sierra’s phone chimed. It was a message from the group chat she shared with Holly and Nicholas, called Single or Paired but Never Third.

Holly: [I heard Pamela ended up in the hospital yesterday. Is that true?]

Holly: [Wait, I mean the day before. Technically, it’s past midnight now.]

Nicholas: [I know about that. It’s true.]

Nicholas sent a voice message a little over ten seconds long, explaining in detail how Pamela had gotten into a car accident and how John hadn’t left Tommy and Sierra to rush to the hospital,

Holly: [Serves her right.]

Holly: [She can’t make any more trouble now when there are only a few days left.]

Holly: [Your coolingoff period ends on the twelfth this month, right? You’re getting the divorce certificate on the thirteenth? @SierraBell]

When Sierra picked up her phone, that was the first message she saw. She glanced at the calendar and typed back. [ Looks like it.]

It had been about twenty days since they applied for the divorce.

Sierra had always worried she wouldn’t be able to adapt to life without John. While she still felt a little uneasy, from the looks of it now, she realized she had already gotten used to most of it.

She could take care of herself and Tommy as well as pay for her mother’s medical bills. She did not need him.

Holly sent another message.

[By the way, I almost forgot to tell you. When I went to the bar yesterday, I saw your dad. He told me to tell you to go see him on Wednesday. He said it’s important and it has something to do with your mom.]

Sierra stared at the screen in silence for a while.

Another voice message from Holly came through. I figured he’s up to no good, so I didn’t tell you right away.

Sierra typed out her response. [Don’t bother with him.]

Her dad might really know something about her mom, but after being tricked once, she would not let it happen again. For all she knew, he simply wanted her to pour drinks for his friends or do something even more disgusting.

On top of that, what Jubilee had said made Sierra even more certain that her mother was hiding something from

her on purpose.

Holly then asked. [Why are you still awake?]

Sierra replied. [I’m a workhorse now.]

Holly could only send back: []

She then followed with another question. [If your mom had taught you how to run a company with me back then, you wouldn’t have to work like this, right?]

Sierra placed her chin in her hand and started thinking.

Her parents founded the Bell Group together. Many of the major decisions had been made by her mom, but for as long as Sierra could remember, her mom had stayed away from the company and had never allowed her to learn anything about it.

Later, when the Bell Group went bankrupt, her mom still didn’t step in to help. She didn’t even show the slightest hint of emotion.

Sierra typed back: [Maybe she thought I wouldn’t starve, and she didn’t want me to go through all the scheming you do in business.]

After what the mysterious man and Jubilee had said, Sierra could no longer pretend she wasn’t curious.

She just had no answers now.

They chatted for a little while longer. Sierra said she still had to work overtime and ended the conversation.

Holly and Nicholas both wanted her to come to work at their company, but they also knew she would never agree to it. So, they only reminded her to tell them if anything came up in the end.

The next day arrived in the blink of an eye.

After Mr. Rogers took Tommy to school, the company car pulled up, and the whole department moved to where they were having their teambuilding event.
