Pamela held out a bank card to Sierra.
Sierra simply glanced at it, her expression growing even colder.
“In addition to this,” Pamela continued, “I’ll make sure John keeps paying for your mom’s treatment. I’m open to negotiations if you have other conditions.”
Sierra didn’t understand why Pamela was haggling like this. “Why?”
“What do you mean, why?” Pamela seemed lost in her own world.
“John loves you enough,” Sierra looked into her eyes. For all her resentment, she still understood her former friend a little. “So why do you want me gone?”
“No one wants to share their partner. I’m no exception.” Pamela withdrew her hand with the card, trying to hide her real emotions. “I can see that John still thinks about you. As long as you’re here, he’ll always have you on his mind.”
Sierra didn’t buy a word of it.
If it were just about that, Pamela could have just schemed behind her back like she did back in college, ruining Sierra’s reputation. Why would she simply pay her to get rid of her now?
“If you think it’s not enough, name your price,” Pamela said, sounding a little desperate. “I’ll try to meet it.”
“I’m not leaving,” Sierra replied flatly.
Her roots were in Jade City. She hadn’t done anything wrong. Why should she go?
“Tommy’s getting his education here, and I have to take care of my mom.”
Pamela started to lose it. “Sierra!”
If Sierra didn’t leave, John would find out her secret eventually. All it would take was the wrong question at the wrong time, and everything would unravel. She couldn’t let that happen. Never!
“Pamela, what are you so afraid of?” Sierra caught every change in her expression. “You look just like you had framed me back then and were scared of being found out.”
Pamela stiffened.
“Is there something you’re hiding from me?” Sierra pressed. “Or did you lie to John about something?”
“You’re overthinking things,” Pamela forced herself to calm down. “I just don’t want you to be in Jade City. As long as you’re here, I’ll never truly have John’s heart.”
“When you got together with him, he must have told you I was present in his life,” Sterra pointed out
John wasn’t one to keep secrets. Sierra was sure he had told Pamela about his marriage. Sierra simply refused to be with a man who kept a mistress outside, but Pamela didn’t seem to have any qualms about it
“He did,” Pamela admitted. “But people are selfish I don’t want to share him with anyone. I want him all to myself.”
Sierra took out her phone and started tapping
Pamela instinctively tried to stop her. “What are you doing?”
“I’m passing your message along to him,” Sierra said, pulling up the security camera feed and sending John a clip of their conversation. “You don’t want him to get the wrong idea, and I don’t want him to come after me.”
She needed to be in control regarding things like this, so it was better to let John know directly than let Parmela stir things up
