He wore a crisp white shirt, his handsome face as cool and flawless as ever. There was no denying that a man like him, who was rich, powerful, and goodlooking, could easily make others want to get closer and make something happen.

John.Pamela’s hands clenched at her sides, eyes full of pity as she stood up. I’m sorry.

John walked up to her and gently pinched her cheek. What’s this all about? Why are you apologizing?

I shouldn’t have tried to pay Sierra to leave,Pamela admitted, not daring to look at him. She’s your wife, and Tommy’s mother. I’m sorry.

I’m the one who should apologize,John pulled her into his arms, his voice softer than ever.

Pamela was stunned.

Sierra was confused.

Both of them were caught off guard.

It’s my fault for not giving you enough sense of security. That’s why you feel like you have to do things like this,John soothed her quietly. Don’t lower yourself like that again. If something’s wrong, just talk to me.

Pamela was stunned, not expecting this. You really don’t blame me?

Not at all,John said.

Thank you, John. I promise I’ll never do it again.Pamela finally relaxed, realizing he wasn’t going to hold this against her.

But she also knew that everything he had just said was for Sierra’s sake, especially that last part. It was a notsosubtle warning to her.

Mr. Rogers,John said to the butler, not sparing Sierra a single glance.

Alfred stepped forward. Sir?

Remove all of Sierra’s access to this house,John ordered. Room codes, security cameras, everything.(1)

Yes, sir.Alfred hurried to do as he was told.

Soon enough, every bit of Sierra’s access was wiped clean. New codes, cameras locked. From now on, she would need John’s permission to even step inside.

I’m sorry Pamela caused you trouble.John pulled twenty dollars out of his pocket. This is compensation for your emotional distress. Since she didn’t actually do any real harm to you, this should be enough.

Sierra couldn’t even muster any anger. She had expected John to make things hard for her, but never in her wildest dreams would she expect him to insult her like this.

It’s fine, she said, calm as ever. The look she gave them was almost pitiful You two probably need this money more than 1 do. Use it to get your heads checked and see if there’s something seriously wrong

Without waiting for their reactions, she went upstairs to get her bag.

Pamela’s face darkened with embarrassment. She tried to complain to John, but when she looked up, she found him watching Sierra head up the stairs, his eyes holding an emotion she had never seen before.

It was almost like pride, or even admiration. The way a parent might feel watching a child finally stand up on their own.

John?Pamela called softly.

John turned to her, the emotion in his eyes gone as quickly as it had come. What is it?

Nothing.Pamela knew better than to say anything more right now.

A moment later, Sierra came back down, bag in hand. As she passed John, she paused and said, full of mocking sarcasm, Do you want to do an inspection today, or are you going to accuse me of stealing after I walk out the door?

There’s no need for that. I trust your character, Ms. Bell,John replied, surprisingly not making it problematic for her.
