Chapter 171
“That person asked me to ask you first.” Sierra echoed Lucas’s words.
Lucas’s rage was simmering inside of him. In the end, all he said was, “Who is it?”
Sierra didn’t answer.
It was obvious. If he wouldn’t answer her, she wouldn’t tell him anything either.
“Jubilee Xanthos.” Lucas could only start with the most likely person. He watched Sierra’s face closely, not missing a single change. “Is it her?”
Sierra frowned. “Jubilee knows, too?”
That reaction made Lucas think he had guessed it wrongly. But if it wasn’t Jubilee, why would anyone else tell Sierra those things? What were they trying to achieve?
“What does she know?” Sierra pressed, not giving him any chance to doubt her.
Lucas forced his emotions down. “Why don’t you go ask her?”
At this point, Sierra knew she wouldn’t get anything else out of him. She only needed to know that the part of Jubilee’s story she had heard was true.
“I will,” Sierra said, having no intention of staying any longer. She could feel emotions beating in her heart from everything she had just learned. “And I’ll get to the bottom of what happened between you and Mom.”
She walked away.
Nicholas pulled his eyes back and followed Sierra. He caught up beside her and walked next to her. “Are you done asking?”
“Even if I asked him, he wouldn’t say a thing,” Sierra said.
Nicholas said, “I can help you.”
Knowing her father, Sierra said, “I can tell from his face that no matter how you threaten him, you won’t be able to force out what he doesn’t want to say. So, there’s no need for that.”
Nicholas thought about it for a moment, then nodded.
They got in the car together. Seeing how distracted Sierra was, Nicholas asked, “Are you heading to the hospital now to see your mom?”
“I’ll go by myself.” Sierra really did want to see her.
Even if her mom didn’t say a word or give her any response, Sierra still wanted to stay with Anna.
Nicholas started the car. “I’ll go with you.”
The car sped along the road.
Thinking about what he had just heard, Nicholas asked casually, “What did you mean by the payment earlier, though? Isn’t it a father’s responsibility to raise his daughter?”
“I’m not really sure.” Some things were clearer to Sierra now, but others felt even more muddled. “Jubilee said my parents signed a prenup before they got married. She also said the money my dad spent on me was Mom’s

payment to him for helping him start Bell Group.”
Nicholas stared at her, stunned.
At a red light, the car came to a stop. Nicholas rubbed his fingers over the steering wheel. “Do married couples really keep things separate that strictly?”
Sierra found it odd as well.
In their circle, prenups and separate finances after marriage weren’t uncommon, but no one ever called it payment. Things were also never divided up so precisely.
A bold thought suddenly came to Nicholas. “Sierra.”
“Yeah?” Sierra answered softly.
“Is there any chance you’re not your dad’s real daughter?” Nicholas had grown up with Sierra and Holly since childhood, so he could be very blunt with his words.
Sierra froze. “What do you mean?”
“Think about it. Normally, if your dad ran off with the money, how would your mom have reacted?” Nicholas knew some of what had happened back then, and he remembered what Sierra had told him that day. “She’d get angry and furious, right?”
Sierra nodded. “That’s right.”
Nicholas went on, “So how did she actually react?”
“She barely reacted at all, like she had seen it coming.” Sierra still remembered it all clearly. “She even told me not to waste my feelings on people who don’t matter.”
