Chapter 172
“Not important, huh?” Nicholas said as he caught the word Sierra used.
Sierra frowned slightly, still finding it hard to believe she might not be Lucas’s biological daughter with Anna.
She had photos from every year of her life, from infancy to adulthood. Her dad had always said he had pursued her mom for a long time before finally winning her over.
If that wasn’t true, then what did that say about her parents at all?
“There’s actually a really simple way to get the answer,” Nicholas said. He had always been decisive in everything except romance. “You and your dad can do a DNA test.”
A honk sounded behind them.
Only then did Nicholas drive the car forward.
“I’ll think about it.” Sierra already had an idea in mind. She wanted to probe Jubilee for information first. Talking face–to–face was the best way to read a reaction, but since they were in different cities, she could only talk to Jubilee over video.
While they were talking, the same subject was being discussed somewhere else.
Right after they left, Kenneth sent the recording from the surveillance equipment to John and gossiped with him on the phone for a while.
“Your mother–in–law is getting more and more mysterious.”
John hadn’t even finished listening to all of it.
* Kenneth went on, “D you think she really started Bell Group?“,
“It’s possible,” John replied.
When Bell Group was first founded, John was still very young, but he learned its history later.
Bell Group took off fast and gained a firm foothold in Jade City in just a few months. If everything had gone normally, it should be close to Henderson Group in size by now.
For some reason, it had started to go downhill instead.
“From what they’re saying, Lucas and Anna’s relationship is not as simple as it looks,” Kenneth said, Gossip was really his thing. “At the very least, the entire framing of how raising a daughter as a payment to Anna is really strange.”
John was still in the CEO’s office at the Henderson Group. The color in his eyes became deep, and a hint of thoughtfulness appeared on his handsome face.
A moment later, an idea came to him, and he called Robin in.
“Yes, boss?” Robin said with respect.
“Have someone run a DNA test for Lucas and Sierra.” John’s voice was cool and steady, his dark eyes impossible to read. “And check when Lucas and Anna got married.”
“Understood.” Robin went out at once to get it done.

Kenneth, who had heard everything over the phone, was full of questions. “You think Sierra might not be Lucas’s daughter?”
“Forget about the contracts and the oddness for a moment.” John’s gaze was dark. “If you were Sierra’s mom, would you choose someone who’s worse than you in every way?”
John hadn’t dealt with Anna much, but he could tell she was far better than Lucas in every aspect. Even if she didn’t pick someone better than herself, he expected an equal at least.

Lucas didn’t have much in terms of talents, and his character was nothing special. Why would Anna fall for someone like that?
“Your logic’s off.” Kenneth didn’t think that far ahead. “What if your mother–in–law just likes someone a bit weaker than she is?”
John didn’t argue with Kenneth. It was only a guess, anyway. He would wait for Robin to give him the results before he decided on anything.
“Any progress on what I asked you to check before?” he asked.
“No. She’s too mysterious.” Kenneth sounded frustrated. “Feels like someone wiped her information clean. Should I call that person back and have her hack into all the major systems to take a look?”
