John fell silent for a moment before answering Kenneth. “You get five more days. If there is still no actual progress, then call her.”
Kenneth wanted to say there was no need. Even a whole month would make no difference.
“Could it be that Anna came from some influential family?” He made a casual guess. “To wipe things this clean… There was no way she was from some ordinary family.”
“Keep digging.” John never drew conclusions without proper results.
Kenneth accepted John’s order and ended the call.
John sat in his office and listened to the recording again. He was certain his mother–in–law was not an ordinary woman, yet there was no Bell family among all the old money.
With that thought in mind, he called Dr. Smith.
When Dr. Smith saw John’s number, he told Sierra and Nicholas that he needed to take a call and stepped out of
the ward.
His tone was very respectful. “Mr. Henderson.”
“Has the man who came to the hospital last time shown up again?” John asked.
“He has.” Dr. Smith didn’t hide anything. “Same as before. He sat in the ward for about half an hour and then left. I only heard about it from the nurses afterward.”
John frowned slightly.
* He moved his mouse, opened the previous security footage, and fixed his gaze on the man on the screen.
That face still felt familiar to John.
Who did he look like?
“Mr. Henderson?” Dr. Smith prompted softly.
“That ward needs strict supervision from now on. Other than Sierra, everyone has to register before they go in, John said. He didn’t look away, and his mood grew darker. “If that man appears again, call me at once.”
“Understood,” Dr. Smith answered.
John hummed in acknowledgment and hung up.
Dr. Smith sent a message in the group chat to pass the instructions along, then returned to the ward.
Sierra was holding her mother’s hand and talking to Anna. When she saw him come in, she asked the same question she always asked about the monitors. “Have my mom’s numbers improved much lately?”
“Actually, there’s an improvement,” Dr. Smith answered honestly.
Sierra brightened at once. “Really?”
“Although the change isn’t very considerable, it’s definitely better than before.” Dr. Smith’s gentle gaze fell on the bed. He was happy for her as well. “I think it’s because you come here and talk to her every day.”
Sierra was delighted. “So, she’s going to wake up before long?”

“She might.” Dr. Smith couldn’t give a completely certain answer.
Even so, his words filled Sierra with hope.
After Dr. Smith left, Sierra stayed by Anna’s side and kept talking. She chatted about how Tommy was doing, about her own life and work, and even brought up Jubilee again.
Watching her sit by the bed, trying so hard to wake her mother, Nicholas felt a sharp pang of regret that he hadn’t gone into medicine. If he had, maybe he could help her now.
He walked over, placed his hand on her shoulder, and gave it a light pat. “Try not to worry too much. Maybe your mom will wake up tomorrow. Then you can tell her whatever you want.”
Sierra nodded.
That scene appeared on the screen just as John opened the live feed to check on Anna.
His dark eyes locked on Nicholas’s hand resting on Sierra’s shoulder. In an instant, the surrounding air turned cold. He took out his phone without hesitation and dialed a number.
“Hello, Mr. Young.”
Nicholas had no idea of the danger that was closing in on him…
