Sierra rushed to the hospital as fast as she could, her hands ice–cold when she answered the phone. She hurried to the doctor’s office, anxious and breathless.
“Dr. Smith, how is my mom?”
“She’s stable for now, but she needs surgery,” Dr. Smith said, handing her a report and explaining the details. “This operation is risky. If it goes well, your mother should wake up within a month or two. If it fails, she might have to rely on a ventilator for
life.”
Sierra’s hands were clenched. She could barely breathe from the anxiety.
Dr. Smith continued, “But if we don’t perform the surgery, she won’t make it through the month.”
“We’ll do it,” Sierra said immediately. “Please do everything you can to save her. Money is not an issue.”
Dr. Smith hesitated.
He knew about the rumors, about her falling out with John. This kind of bill would be astronomical for her.
“Try to get at least fifty thousand over the next few days,” he said honestly, seeing the worry in her eyes. “And if things don’t go well, the cost may go up.”

After signing, she planned to visit her mom. But just as she turned, she saw John at the door. He stood there straight and elegant, exuding privilege. He glanced at her, then went straight to the doctor for an update.
When he asked about the cost, Dr. Smith told him the truth.
On hearing the number, John looked at Sierra and gave a command that tolerated no argument. “Come with me.”
Sierra stood silent, unmoving
John grabbed her wrist and pulled her into the next room.
“Do you regret it?” He sat down and looked at her, every gesture filled with arrogance.
Sierra knew what he meant. He was asking her about the question he had asked her just a few days ago. She pressed her lips together stubbornly.
“No. I don’t regret it.”
John thought she needed to be taught a lesson. He pulled her down into his lap. The moment she tried to get up, he pressed her
