Chapter 184
John glared at the screen and finally said to Kenneth, “She’s Sierra.”
Kenneth nodded. “I know.”
John continued, “She should never have to bow and apologize to anyone.”
From the moment John met her, he knew that Sierra had a spine of steel underneath her soft and delicate exterior. Forcing her to apologize… Who did that Hawthorne brat think he was?
“Don’t you think you’re contradicting yourself here?” Kenneth once again failed to understand John’s view of love. “You’re the one who wanted other people to make things hard for her, and now you’re the one who can’t stand watching it.”
John’s gaze deepened as he watched the security feed.
“Either you let Sierra live her own life and stay completely out of it no matter what happens, even if she dies,” Kenneth went on, “or you protect her all the way and never let anyone lay a hand on her.”
John stayed silent, eyes fixed on the laptop screen. The hotel manager’s number was already pulled up on the phone in his hand.
Seeing that, Kenneth went silent. He knew nothing he said would get through..
Right now, Sierra had no idea John was watching all of this on a screen somewhere.
Zane, too, had no idea he was already on someone’s radar.
“Alright, I’ll apologize.” Sierra met Zane’s eyes. “Just now, I brought up something that happened when Mr. Hawthorne was eighteen. Let me say to Mr. Hawthorne…”
“Shut up!” Zane shot to his feet.
Sierra was forced to stop.
Zane clenched his fists, terrified she would slip and say what really happened back then.
In a burst of anger, he snapped without thinking things through. “Fire her! Someone like her has to be fired!”
“That might be a little difficult.” From their conversation, Randy could tell they had known each other for a long time. “Our department reports to Mr. Henderson directly. He has to approve all resignations and terminations.”
Zane paused, remembering some of the rumors he had heard lately. Without him realizing it, his brows furrowed.
Had John really taken over such a newly listed company just because of Sierra?
Randy tested the waters and asked, “Shall I pass your wishes along to Mr. Henderson?”
“It’s fine,” Zane refused without a second thought.
If he really did that, he might not even know how he ended up dead in a ditch somewhere.
Even though John had publicly said he wouldn’t protect Sierra the way he had before, there had to be a reason he had come to this small company for her sake. Ticking off someone important over something so small wasn’t worth the effort.
“I’ll let it go this time. If anything like this happens again, I won’t let it slide,” Zane said as he stood up. He

gritted his teeth, his eyes full of anger as he glared at Sierra.
Then, he walked away.
Randy hurried after him. “Mr. Hawthorne! Where are you going?”
“I’m extremely annoyed right now. I need a breather,” Zane said, still setting up trouble for Sierra before he left.” I’ll be back when the party starts tonight.”
Randy finally let out a small sigh of relief. After walking Zane out, he came back and spoke to Sierra.
“Why would you go and cross him like that? Don’t pull a stunt like that again!”
Suspicion flickered in Sierra’s eyes.
Based on what had happened before, Randy should have jumped at the chance to pick on her and lecture her with sarcasm. Why was he being so polite now?
“What are you standing around for? Go upstairs and get ready for tonight’s performance,” Randy urged her. ” Didn’t you hear Mr. Hawthorne say he’ll be back tonight?”
Sierra answered him politely and left.
Watching her walk away, Randy’s expression became more calculating.
Zane Hawthorne had called her Ms. Bell, and the two of them clearly knew each other from before. For her to have the courage to go head–to–head with Mr. Hawthorne like that, Sierra definitely wasn’t as ordinary as she looked.
After getting into his car, Zane glanced back at the hotel. He pulled out his phone and sent a message in a small group chat.
