Chapter 185
Sierra went back upstairs and saw Jenny waiting in the second–floor lounge.
When she walked in, Jenny immediately asked, “How was it? Did you handle it fine?”
“It was alright,” Sierra answered honestly.
She could handle Zane. He had already been scared straight by Holly because of all the beatings, and he wouldn’t really dare do anything to her.
“Stay next to me tonight,” Jenny said. She didn’t explain further, and her gaze settled on Sierra. “If anything happens, I’ll take care of it.”
There was curiosity in Sierra’s eyes.

Jenny, carrying a cool, commanding aura of a lady boss, asked, “What is it?”
“If trouble really shows up tonight, then the people who are causing it will probably outrank Zane Hawthorne,” Sierra said. She didn’t want to cause trouble for anyone else, even when Jenny made her feel safe. “It’s better if I handle it myself.”
“You don’t trust me?” Jenny asked.
“I do.” Sierra meant it. “It’s exactly because I trust you that I think it’s better if I deal with it myself.”
Jenny was sharp and steady, someone who could make people feel at ease. Sierra believed that even if those people tried to stir things up, Jenny could calm things down.
However, that would only paint a target on Jenny’s back. Sierra didn’t want Jenny dragged into this mess or to complicate Jenny’s life.
“Alright.” Jenny didn’t push. “If you need me, come find me.“.
“Okay.” Sierra nodded.
The rest of the afternoon passed quickly, with Sierra following the company schedule and rehearsing for the show. The performance involving her, Jenny, and Leona was placed in the middle portion of the celebration.
Time quickly went by.
At six in the evening, the tenth anniversary party for the company started on time.
The host spoke with great enthusiasm about Origin Games‘ ten–year history, then a few members from the leadership team gave their speeches.
The employees sat in neat rows across the hotel ballroom, Sierra among them.
When the speeches ended, the performances began. Each group went up in turn.
When it was almost Sierra’s group’s turn, she and the other’s headed backstage to get ready.
On the second floor, Kenneth and John watched everything clearly from above. Kenneth let his eyes sweep the crowd before saying, “Those people are already on their way. Are you really going to let them go after Sierra?”
John stayed silent.
Kenneth pressed him. “You’re not going to regret this?”

John replied with a question instead. “Didn’t you say you weren’t coming?”
“I’m worried you might have to leave at the last minute and won’t be able to keep things under control,” Kenneth said, sounding sincere.
He buried his curiosity and desire for tea as deep as possible.
John couldn’t even be bothered to call him out.
Kenneth pulled his eyes away from the stage and asked, “How’s Pamela doing?”
John’s tone didn’t change. “She’s still in the hospital recovering.”
A bold thought flashed through Kenneth’s mind. “If she calls you later, are you going to go to her or stay here?”
John’s gaze turned cold as it landed on him.
Kenneth slapped himself. “I’ll shut up.”
He had no idea his words were about to come true.
Backstage, Sierra was changing with Jenny and the others. Halfway through pulling on her outfit, her phone started buzzing.
When she saw the unfamiliar number, she swiped to answer, thinking it might be about the annual celebration.
“Hello, who’s this?” she asked casually while she kept changing.
“Sierra, do you know where John is?” Pamela’s voice came through the phone. “I’ve been calling him, but he isn’t answering.”
Sierra stared at her phone, taken aback.
Didn’t she already block all of Pamela’s numbers?
