John and Pamela chatted for a while longer when John received a message from Kenneth.
[They’re here. I’m going to deal with them first. If anything comes up, call me.]
John’s fingers moved, and he replied, [Alright.]
After reading the response, Kenneth put his phone away and fixed his attention on Sierra down in the ballroom.
By then, all the performances were over. The company had started handing out the Top Ten Leadership Awards, with each department sending someone up to accept a prize.
In Sierra’s department, the award went to Jenny.
After that came the Top Ten Employee Awards.
Once every prize had been handed out, the host launched into an impassioned speech about how the company and its employees achieved success together. When he finished the official lines, he looked to the other side of the
stage.
“Next, let us give a warm round of applause to Mr. Morgan Snyder’s friends!”
The whole hall started to clap their hands.
Right after that, Sierra saw Zane and a whole column of nepo babies walking up on stage with Morgan.
The corner of her mouth twitched.
She hadn’t expected them to show up like this.
ノ
Zane Hawthorne, Wendy Marshall, Adam Graham, Liam Acton, and others whose names she could barely remember.
She honestly didn’t know whether to call them foolish.
Putting Zane aside, the other three all came from families that owned game companies. However, their main businesses weren’t in gaming, and they couldn’t compete with a company like Origin Games that focused solely
on games.
Still, them showing up here like this was basically free promotion for Origin Games.
Sierra would give them a thumbs–up if they went home without getting yelled at.
“Morgan, do you mind if I borrow the mic for a moment?” Wendy said as she glanced in Sierra’s direction, polite and gracious on stage.
Morgan handed the microphone to her.
Wendy started with a few lines wishing Origin Games a better future. After she finished with the formal blessings, she finally moved to her main objective.
“Along with what I’ve already mentioned, I’d like to have a friend to join me on this stage.”
Sierra sighed.
She quickly bent down and slipped out through the crowd.
She wasn’t about to go up and let these people treat her like a monkey on display. If upper management asked

about it later, she planned to say she had a stomachache and hadn’t heard a thing.
She had already cleared this story with Jenny and Leona, anyway.
“Sierra Bell!” Wendy announced as she looked toward where Sierra had been sitting, only to see an empty seat.
Everyone in Sierra’s department turned to look around.
“Where did she go? She was just here…”
“Jenny, did you see Sierra?”

“She wasn’t feeling well and went to the restroom,” Jenny lied without so much as a blink.
“She always manages to disappear at critical moments,” Randy said.
He sounded like he was scolding Sierra, but there was no real anger in his voice.
“She argued with Mr. Hawthorne this afternoon, and now, she’s snubbing Ms. Marshall. How can she be so stubborn?”
Sierra didn’t care what people thought. To keep her story straight, she bolted to the bathroom and hid inside.
