Chapter 189
“Have you become this timid once you’re no longer with John?” Wendy asked as she stood there with her arms crossed, her tone mocking as she spoke to Sierra’s reflection in the mirror. “That’s not the same Ms. Bell that Zane talked about.”
“You’re not like the rumors either, Ms. Marshall,” Sierra answered, throwing it right back at Wendy.
Wendy took two steps toward her. “And what do the rumors say about me?”
“You know that better than anyone,” Sierra replied. During her years married to John, she had learned about those within their circle as well. “Didn’t you yourself have others spread those rumors?”
Wendy paused, clearly not expecting that. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she studied Sierra. “Did John tell you that?
“Do I need him to tell me?” Sierra genuinely didn’t understand why that would be anyone’s first guess.
Wendy blinked as she began to doubt herself. “Was I really that obvious?”
“Not obvious at all,” Sierra said honestly.
Anyone who didn’t look closely would just think Wendy was another spoiled girl, indulged by her family and impossible to reason with.
Wendy suddenly felt the urge to hit someone.
If it wasn’t obvious, why say all of that?
“I just happened to see you pour water on someone once, acting all arrogant and over the top, then had someone secretly pay them a large amount of money afterward. If it weren’t for that, I never would’ve noticed it was all an act.”
But then, why bother building such a persona when her parents adored her and gave her everything at home?
The smile drained from Wendy’s face. “Who did you tell?”
“Do you care that much?” Sierra asked.
Wendy fell silent, pinching the bridge of her nose. Somehow, she couldn’t seem to hide anything anytime she ran into Sierra.
“If you can promise not to be angry about the party two years ago, I’ll tell you who I told,” Sierra said, “and 1 promise it stays a secret.”
The main reason Sierra was worried that Wendy would come seek her out right now was that, in the past, John had embarrassed Wendy in public to stand up for her.
“Are you threatening me?” Wendy stared straight at her.
“Yes,” Sierra admitted without hesitation.
“You think I’m afraid of a threat from you?” Wendy closed the distance between them until they were almost nose to nose. “Don’t forget, you don’t have John protecting you anymore!”
“But I have Holly,” Sierra said, spreading her hands.
Wendy’s mouth twitched. For a moment, she actually felt a little envious of the bond between Sierra and Holly

that had been forged since childhood.
Sierra didn’t want to make another enemy. In her current situation, picking fights was a luxury she couldn’t afford.
“John’s approach back then was a little heavy–handed, but you were the one who started it.”
“So what?” Wendy replied, slipping right back into her arrogant heiress act.
“I’ll apologize, and we’ll wipe the slate clean,” Sierra suggested.
“I came here with that pack of spoiled brats,” Wendy said pointedly, her fingertip tapping a small bead of water on the sink. “If they see you walk out of here perfectly fine, they’ll think I went soft.”
Sierra put her hands under the faucet, then started splashing water onto her own hair and clothes, soaking herself.
Wendy froze. Then, she blinked in confusion. “What are you doing?!”
