Sierra lifted her head and met John’s gaze.
There was nothing between her and Solomon, but being stared at like that still made her feel on edge.
John set his helmet on the motorcycle and walked toward her, his steps steady and powerful. Even in the dark, his black eyes were so intense they made her want to run. He simply watched her from a short distance away.
He didn’t move or look away.
“You’re here,” Solomon greeted John, his tone as calm as ever.
John took in how close the two of them were standing.
Sierra instinctively took a step to the side to create some distance.
When she realized what she was doing, her expression shifted slightly. She didn’t do anything wrong, so why did she feel guilty?
“Where’s Kenneth?” John opened his mouth, his tone distant and cold as he addressed Solomon. “What did you do to him?”
“Is that why you came?” Solomon asked, a trace of amusement in his eyes.
John did not answer. “None of your business.”
“He’s on the second floor, talking to my secretary. They should be almost done.” Solomon pushed his glasses up, looking like a cultured gentleman. “Do you want to go up with me?”
John glanced at Sierra, then said, “We’re not close enough to walk side by side together.”
“Then I’ll go up first.” Solomon’s one stayed soft, without any of John’s sharp words. “Give yourself a moment or two with Sierra.”
John ignored Solomon’s natural tone with her. “You’re not worried your wife will get jealous, hearing how close you two sound? I heard you two were arguing a few days ago.”
“It was just a little quarrel. Haven’t you and Sierra ever argued?” Solomon stayed composed.
John lifted his gaze. “So, you’re admitting it.”
Solomon paused. Only then did he realize he had been led into John’s trap. His eyes darkened.
“What happened here could be made into a big deal, or it could be nothing,” John said, his voice unhurried. “If someone with an agenda stirs the pot, do you think she’ll start to believe you came here for Sierra?”
“I did come for Sierra.” Solomon met his eyes.
“Keep that line and tell it to her face,” John said, his oyes dark and clear. “See if she’ll end that relationship between you two that’s never exactly proper after she hears it.”
A different emotion flashed through Solomon’s usually gentle eyes, and the air around him shifted, just slightly.
“How much do you know?”
His only answer was John’s hand closing around Sierra’s wrist as he pulled her away.
This time, Sierra didn’t resist. She let John lead her to the other side of the garden.

After a minute or two of walking, John finally stopped. His dark eyes fell on her. He wanted to say something, but
there were no words.
He knew Sierra would never seek Solomon out on her own.
He knew Solomon deliberately used a warm tone with her name as he stood close to her.
He knew she wouldn’t believe Solomon.
