Chapter 201
Meanwhile, John was sitting across from Solomon in the reception room on the second floor.
Solomon said to Joven and his two bodyguards, “Give us some space. I need to talk to John in private,”
Joven nodded. “Of course.”
He then left with the bodyguards.
Solomon turned and glanced at Kenneth, then looked back at John. “Do you want your friend to leave, too? You probably don’t want him to hear what we’re about to talk about.”
Kenneth gave John a side–eye, clearly leaving the choice to John.
“It’s fine,” John replied calmly. “I’m not like you. I don’t have that many shady secrets.”
“I hope you can still say that later.” Solomon chuckled slightly, a faint smile on his face.
John’s personality was the complete opposite of his. John never cared if anyone had dirt on him, and he did not mind if others knew his weak spots.
John asked directly, “Why did you meet with Sierra?”
“Just wanted to talk,” Solomon answered, as if it was nothing out of the ordinary.
“You needed this much setup just to talk?” John thought of tonight’s careful arrangements. There was no way he believed it was for something small.
“For a normal talk? Of course not,” Solomon said as he slowly took off his glasses. “But I talked to her about your childhood. I even showed her some photos.”
John’s expression darkened.
Solomon put his glasses back on and asked slowly, “What? She didn’t mention it to you?”
Kenneth looked at John, a little worried. His heart tightened for John without him even noticing.
John hated talking about his childhood. That was a part of his past he wanted to seal away, something he meant to bury completely. Even Kenneth had never brought it up in front of him all these years.
Solomon bringing it up with Sierra was like poking a bear.
“She knows I hate hearing about that,” John said. Because Sierra was so keen on his feelings, the anger in his chest slowly calmed down. “You’ve probably never felt that kind of protective love before.”
A faint light flashed in Solomon’s eyes behind his glasses.
“After all, you only care about power and profit.” John went straight for his weak point without the slightest pause.
“Then take a look at this.” Solomon pulled up a photo on his phone and slid it over to John. “I showed her this one, too.”
John lowered his eyes.
The moment the photo came into view, his heart gave a hard jolt.
His mind was dragged back to the past, as if the person in the photo was still bright and full of energy with an eternal smile on his face. As if he were still alive.
“So, what?” John sounded very calm. “It’s just a photo.”
Kenneth was stunned.

Solomon frowned.
He knew how much that incident had affected John. After that, John would snap and fight back even if their parents said one word about it.
So why was he reacting like this now?
“You did all this to stop me and even had Kenneth captured. What are you really trying to do?” John pulled his thoughts back. His entire person was steady, as if he had completed a stage of his growth in that instant.
Solomon’s gaze stayed on him, studying him.
The air in the meeting room grew heavy.
After watching John for a while and still unable to tell if he was pretending or really did not care, Solomon finally said slowly and calmly, “I already told you why.”
John’s dark eyes were deep and hard to read.
He didn’t believe Solomon had done all this just to tell Sierra about his past. If that was all he wanted, he could have called anytime or found another chance to say it. There was no need to make something so high–profile and complicated.
“In a bit, the award ceremony is going to start. Want to go take a look?” Solomon changed the subject. “Sierra might win something.”
