Solomon knew John was capable of complex schemes and could be quite ruthless with them, but he had not expected John to stay this perceptive after everything that had happened.
“She’s just someone unimportant. Why would I worry?” Solomon stayed perfectly calm as he picked up his phone, lit the screen, and glanced at it. “I’m just a little tired and wanted to see what time it is.”
John’s eyes gave a slight, mocking look at Solomon. It was sad to see a man too afraid to confront his emotions.
“Stop using Sierra.” His tone was even, his dark eyes impossible to read. “Otherwise, I won’t hesitate to drag someone else in as
well.”
With that, John turned and walked out, as steady and indifferent as ever.
Only after he and Kenneth were completely out of sight did Solomon pick his phone up again and make a call, a chill in his gaze that he did not usually show.
In the parking lot, Kenneth sat behind the wheel. He glanced at the quiet man beside him and tried to ease the mood. “You mentioned a sister–in–law. So, Solomon really has someone?”
John thought of what he had found out by accident. “Not exactly.”
Kenneth blinked, somewhat confused. “What do you mean, not exactly?”
“He never admitted it,” John said.
Kenneth blinked again.
“Your whole family really is full of scumbags,” Kenneth blurted out. “One is trying to divorce his wife for someone else, the other keeps things vague and won’t make it official…” 1
He trailed off as the air in the car suddenly grew heavy. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw John’s expression turn dark.
“I never asked for the divorce.” John’s voice went cold.
It was always Sierra who brought it up first.
“My mistake. I’ll slap myself ten times later,” Kenneth said as he immediately backed down, not wanting to make him even
more furious.
He finally understood why the judges on certain talent shows only say nice things and never point out flaws. If he were on a panel like that and all the contestants were like this, he figured he would not dare say a word either.
The car sped on in silence.
As they reached an intersection, John suddenly said, “Turn left at the light.”
“Why?” Kenneth asked even as he smoothly changed into the lane so he could make the left turn. “That isn’t the way back to Campanile Estate.”
John did not answer.
After Sierra got home, she replied to all her messages.
She updated the various directors about Solomon’s condition through the work app, then switched to her usual chat app to answer everyone else.

By the time she finished, half an hour had gone by.
She slumped on the couch, her gaze filled with complicated feelings. It was hard to deliberately twist the truth about someone when she knew what he had really done.
She tossed her phone onto the couch. All kinds of emotions were forming a storm inside of her. He grabbed a set of pajamas and went to shower, trying to wash away the chaos in her head.
Just as water was cascading down in the bathroom, someone was knocking on the door outside. The knocking continued several times with no response.
John pulled out his phone and called Tommy, who was about to go to sleep. As soon as the call connected, he said bluntly, “I’m outside your mom’s apartment.”
“Mom doesn’t want you at our place,” Tommy reminded him kindly.
“I think she might be in danger,” John said.
Tommy didn’t buy it. “You’re the biggest danger to her.”
John fell silent.
