Chapter 242

That night, John did not sleep well.
He had always assumed that even if Sierra disliked him and hated what was going on with Pamela, what she felt toward him was simple and straightforward hatred.
Just like when Solomon told her about his childhood. Even if she didn’t want anything to do with John, she still protected his bruised pride.
But now, it felt different.
Sierra didn’t know any of this.
She kept living her same simple, busy life. During her break, she sent the date she was finalizing her divorce to Jubilee.
She felt both eager and torn when it came to the divorce, like she was saying her final goodbye to a beautiful memory she would never see again.
Before she knew it, Thursday arrived.
Sierra was at the office, working as carefully as ever. She stared at the screen, thinking through a problem in her mind.
“Sierra,” Jenny called her.
Sierra jolted. “Yeah?”
Jenny took one look at her and asked, “What is it? Are you feeling sick?”
“No. I was just thinking about how to handle this part.” Sierra traced a section of the monitor with her finger. “It’s harder than I thought.”
“Leave it for now,” Jenny said evenly. “There are two people in the conference room on the twelfth floor. Morgan wants you to
go see them.”
“What?” Sierra blinked. “Morgan wants me to see them?”
Jenny nodded. “Yeah.”
Sierra didn’t understand what was going on, but she still went.
John had been at Henderson Group these past few days and hadn’t come by, so it couldn’t be him and Robin. Holly and Nicholas would usually tell her ahead of time if they were coming.
So, who was it?
With her thoughts tangled up, she took the elevator up to the twelfth floor and went straight to the conference room.
“There you are,” Morgan said, waiting near the elevators. The second he saw her, he ushered her forward. “They have been waiting a long time.”
Sierra stopped short. “They?”
“Mr. Henderson’s parents,” Morgan answered.
Sierra turned around and hit the elevator button again, making it obvious she had no intention of going in.
She wasn’t a fool.
Those two had never liked her. They were here to ask her why she still hadn’t divorced John.
If she told them it was scheduled for next Friday, they would think she was stalling because she didn’t really want to leave.

For her own sanity, and to make sure the rest of the afternoon remained pleasurable, she wasn’t going to walk inside just to get
scolded.
“What are you doing?” Morgan stepped in front of the elevator door, slightly frowning at her.
“My stomach is acting up. I need to go to the restroom.” Sierra pressed a hand to her belly, already fully committed to the act as her expression twisted slightly. “Can I go and come back after?”
