Jason Sanders, Holly’s father, snatched the phone out of Holly’s hand.
Holly blinked. “What are you doing?”
“Pick one,” Jason said, glancing at her message list and noticing the pinned contact named “Partner in Crime“. Seeing the two unread messages, he calmly shifted the phone to delete the messages. He knew that contact was Sierra.
Holly was confused.
She didn’t notice what he just did. “Pick what?”
“Me or your phone?” he said, not letting her catch on.
“That’s easy. My phone, obviously.” Holly grabbed her phone back. “If I picked you, who knows what your little girlfriends would say behind my back.”
Jason said nothing.
Holly didn’t care about his love life as long as nobody bothered her. “If there’s nothing important, I’m leaving.”
“Wait.” Remembering a certain someone’s warning, Jason tried to keep her there longer. “Did you know Sierra and John are getting divorced?”
“Yeah, what about it?” Holly replied casually.
“Try not to get too involved with her right now,” Jason warned. “If she runs into trouble, stay out of it. I know you’re close, but sometimes it’s better to keep your head down.”
Holly rolled her eyes at him and left after calling him crazy.
After leaving, she went to meet the two diamond collectors she knew. If the meetings went well, Sierra’s ring could be sold. If not, they would have to find another way.
Over an hour later, Holly sent Sierra a voice message. “I talked to both of them. Neither will take the ring. John has put the word out. Anyone who buys from you is making an enemy of him.”
She also added, “Want me to bring you something to eat? We’ll figure things out together.”
But her messages went unanswered.
Sierra, in fact, received nothing at all. From the moment she stepped into conference room 2801, she was cut off from all contact. Signal jammers had been activated on the entire 25th floor and above.
Sierra noticed this when she checked her phone, which made her uneasy,
The door was open, but the two bulky bodyguards standing outside were intimidating.
“Where’s your boss?” she asked the man standing beside her.
“He’s in the next room meeting with a VIP,” said the secretary, calm and polite. “He should be done very soon.”
Sierra pursed her lips and asked, “Why isn’t there any signal in here?”
“It’s a precaution. Our boss is discussing sensitive business, so we installed jammers,” the secretary replied smoothly. “Once the meeting is over, you’ll have a signal again.”
Sierra nodded, but she couldn’t shake her nerves. With no way to send or receive messages, she had no idea how she would contact Holly if something went wrong.
Another minute or two passed, and still no sign of Kenneth.

Sierra scanned the conference room, then stood up and said politely, “I just remembered my friend is waiting for me downstairs. I’ll go check on her, so she doesn’t get worried.”
She headed toward the door.
But as she reached it, the two bodyguards blocked her way.
“What’s the meaning of this?” Sierra gripped her purse tightly, turning to glare at the stoic secretary.
