When Danny saw John’s message, he paused. A deep frown appeared on his face, then he finally chose to ignore the message.

He was not the one who was going to make a move. Lucas would be. Even if John wanted to settle the score, he would go after

Lucas.

The next day, everyone was busy with their own affairs.

As for Sierra, she still had not calmed down enough from what John had said when Lucas contacted her. Lucas said he would tell her the answers to the questions she had asked before, but only if she met him alone.

“No.” Sierra refused without even thinking about it.

She did want to know what kind of relationship her mother had with him, but she had not forgotten how he had trapped her earlier. She could afford to risk everything if it were just her. At worst, she would drag him down with her.

She could not make the gamble so easily.

“If you won’t, I’ll go to the hospital and visit your mom,” Lucas said.

He had gotten a lot bolder once he thought he had Danny and Agnes backing him, but he did not know that Danny and Agnes were already powerless compared to their former selves. None of the things they had promised him could actually be delivered.

Sierra’s hand tightened suddenly around her phone.

Legally, he was still her mother’s husband. The accident happened too fast. Her mother hadn’t had time to divorce him before it happened.

If he really insisted on visiting, even John’s people could not do much to stop him.

He could simply call the police and claim someone was stopping him from seeing his wife. That was when the real issue would

He could easily twist the story about running off with the money, put on a show in front of the police, and win their sympathy.

“Your mother and I are the perfect couple in everyone else’s eyes,” Lucas said again, his tone threatening. “If the police ask around a little, they’ll see how good I treated both of you.”

“If you were really so nice to her, why didn’t you visit her even once in the four or five years after the accident?”

Only a handful of people knew about him running off with the money, but all these years, Lucas had never come back.

Silence came from his side.

Sierra went on. “I still have the recording from when you came to ask me for money last time. Want me to let the police hear it?”

“Do you want to know the truth or not?” Lucas asked, knowing that he could not argue with her. And so, he could only go back to his original bait.

“I do, but you’re not the only one who knows about the truth,” Sierra said. She hated being threatened. She was even less willing to give in with leverage in her hand. “Jubilee is coming back soon. I can always just ask hier”

The moment she said that, Lucas’s expression darkened. He had to play his ace in the hole, now.

“If you don’t come here, I’ll talk to the doctors and have your mother discharged. I’ll bring her out and take care of her myself!”

“Suit yourself.” Sierra ended the call with those two words.

She might have worried in the past, afraid that Lucas really had some way to pull off.

Now, things were different. John had been covering her mother’s medical expenses all these years. Sierra had handled everything else during this period, and Lucas hadn’t taken part in any of it.

He would not have a leg to stand on, even if he tried to force her mother to get a discharge. Most importantly, John would step in, even if Sierra didn’t want to admit it.

“What was that about?” Holly had heard the call and couldn’t make sense of Lucas’s attitude. “He threatens you with your mom just to make you go see him? Why didn’t he mention her when he asked you for cash before? Wouldn’t that have been better for him?”

The whole thing clearly made no sense.
