“You said it yourself. I’m crazy,” John replied calmly.
“Wait, you’re serious?” Kenneth didn’t expect that John was that kind of person. “If you’re going to be like this, don’t ever ask me for help again! Playing the bad guy and the scapegoat is more than I signed up for.”
John just gave him a cool look. “Coward.”
Kenneth was speechless.
If this guy weren’t his best friend, he would have tossed him out the window right now! 1
“Take your people downstairs,” John said, thinking of the woman probably already in tears next door. His gaze darkened. “No one’s allowed up here unless I say so.”
“Yeah, yeah, we won’t bother you,” Kenneth shot back sarcastically, but gave one last warning. “Just don’t go overboard. She genuinely looks scared.”
John gave him a sideways look.
Kenneth threw up his hands. “Fine, fine. I’m gone, alright? I’m gone.”
He didn’t linger, quickly leaving with his guards and assistant. Only when the elevator doors closed did John slowly make his way to the room where Sierra was being held.
As the door opened, Sierra’s tied–up body was flinching uncontrollably. She wanted to say something, but with tape over her mouth, she could only make muffled noises.
The sound of leather shoes grew closer, making her even more afraid. With her eyes covered, every sensation was magnified.
John approached the bed, and for a second, his heart softened at her terrified face. But the thought of her being daring enough to sell the wedding ring he gave her without permission made him angry. He reached out, harsh fingertips tracing her soft skin.
“Ngh…” Sierra shook her head, trying desperately to avoid his touch, but she couldn’t move at all.
In a short while, cold tears rolled down from beneath the blindfold. Feeling her warm tears, John’s expression darkened further.
He pulled out his phone, typed a line into a speech app, and played the voice of an unfamiliar man, “Don’t you know tears are like an aphrodisiac to men?”
Sierra froze in terror.
Who was this man? Was this the VIP Kenneth’s secretary had mentioned?
Before Sierra could think further, she felt a hot breath on her neck, followed by wet kisses along her skin. Maybe it was the tear, or just the physical revulsion of a stranger touching her, but suddenly she couldn’t breathe, a choking teeling tightening in het chest. Her face turned red.
John realized something was wrong. He ripped off the tape from her mouth, letting her gasp for air.
But Sierra was too scared and panicky about being tied up. It became even harder for her to breathe. Everything went black and dizzy as she started to pass out.
“Sierra!” John called her name, patting her face.
But she still couldn’t breathe.
He kissed her lips, sharing his breath, and quickly untied the ropes around her. Finally, she was free to move. After ten seconds, Sierra started to recover, gulping in air like someone nearly drowned. The red in her face slowly faded as her breathing steadied.
John removed the blindfold. His face was cold and distant again. “Better?”
