Sierra closed the car door and headed for Anna’s room as fast as she could. The closer she got, the tighter her chest felt. Even she didn’t quite understand the complicated emotions rising inside her.

Two minutes later, she reached the door and saw a man in a suit and tie sitting beside her mother’s bed. Even looking at him from only the side, she could tell that he was a handsome man. She walked in quickly and kept her voice as even as possible.

“Who are you? Why are you in my mom’s room?”

The man turned toward her.

Only then did Sierra see his face clearly.

In person, he looked even more intense and determined compared to the security camera footage. His dark eyes held a calm depth that came from weathering countless storms. There was an unmistakable aura of power about him.

Sierra had met plenty of people since she was young, and she knew in an instant this was not just a simple man. If he were an enemy, he would not be easy to deal with.

“I am an old acquaintance of your mother,” the middle–aged man said. When his gaze landed on her face, some other emotion flashed deep in his eyes as he paused for a moment. “You are Sierra, right?”

Sierra’s guard went up a notch. “You know me?”

She had never seen this man in her life, and her mother had never mentioned him. If he knew her name, he had to have investigated the people around her mother.

“I have heard your mother talk about you,” the man said casually, his eyes still fixed on her face. “Has she woken up at all recently?”

“But I’ve never heard my mom mention you,” Sierra replied. She moved to the other side of Anna’s bed, her gaze sweeping over him and the man standing behind him. “She has never said anything about some old acquaintance, either.”

The man’s expression softened. “It makes sense you have not heard of me. We haven’t seen each other for nearly twenty years.”

Sierra’s brows furrowed.

Behind him, his assistant leaned in and lowered his voice and whispered into the man’s ear. “Boss, you and Sierra look really alike. Do you think she might be your child with Miss K?”

The man froze.

So that was why this girl’s face looked so familiar.

His mind was racing with thoughts. He seemed to have suddenly remembered something, and he asked, “My apologies, but when were you born?”

“You still haven’t answered me,” Sierra said. Before she knew whether he was friend or foe, she wouldn’t hand over her personal information so easily. “Why did you come here? And why more than once?”

She believed he might be an old acquaintance, but he hadn’t said what kind. Enemies were a kind of old acquaintance, too. “Anna will tell you when she wakes up,” the man said, not answering her directly. His gaze on her grew even deeper. “I promised her I wouldn’t go around talking about our relationship without her consent.”

The assistant fell silent.

That explanation only sounded more deliberate.

Sierra’s mind grew even more confused. From what Jubilee had said, this man and her mother must be deeply connected.
