Lucy didn’t fall into the trap he had set up for her. She simply said in her usual calm tone, “I don’t care whether you look into Sierra’s mom or not. I’m just wondering why my mentor would bother hiding both of their files.”

John’s brow lifted a little. Was Anna really not her mentor?

“If it’s just business, then it doesn’t matter,” Lucy added in her usual lazy tone. “If it’s something serious, though, that makes me a pretty unfilial student if I continue with the investigation.”

“You told me your mentor retired,” John said without hurry.

“Yeah,” Lucy answered.

“In that case, anything on the internet has nothing to do with her anymore,” John said. “Whether someone can find it just depends on their skill.”

“A fair point,” Lucy said.

“Investigate him then,” John said with a nod.

Lucy glanced at the security camera footage on her screen. After a moment of hesitation, she helped him with the investigation. Her mentor was using a different name now than before. Even if John followed this man’s trail, he might not find anything.

And the idea that her mentor had anything to do with the middle–aged man was only her guess.

“Wait!” John suddenly said just as she switched screens.

“What now?” Lucy asked lazily.

John felt like he had just noticed something, but it had flashed by too fast. “Rewind the footage. Two minutes.”

Lucy did as he asked. She watched Sierra and the well–dressed middle–aged man standing together on the screen and did not see anything strange. She turned her head a little.

“This looks like a totally normal conversation. You’re not actually jealous about this, are you?”

John did not answer. His eyes stayed on the two people in the footage. In that moment, the vague thought in the back of his mind finally settled. The part that had bothered him before now had finally crystallized.

No wonder this man had looked familiar.

So that was it.

Seeing his expression, Lucy’s eyes narrowed. He might actually be jealous of his reaction.

“Don’t you think Sierra looks like him?” John asked, wanting to be sure it was not just his imagination,

“Not really,” Lucy said at first before she took another look. “Two eyes, one nose, one mouth… If you really want to say they look alike, then I guess they do…”

She trailed off, suddenly sitting up straight. They…really did they look alike?

“Who is he?” she asked without thinking.

John stayed silent and stared at her as if to say, “Why are you asking me?”

“Give me two minutes!” Lucy said.

She wanted to know more, and instantly split the screen in two. One side kept playing the security camera footage while she started the search on the other side.

If this man was very close to her mentor, then her mentor dropping off the web probably had something to do with him. He might even be the reason why she was forced to retire.

Her fingers darted all over the keyboard, and strings of code scrolled past. It didn’t take long for her to break through her mentor’s first layer of defenses and pull up some surface–level information.
