Very little about the chairman of the Lynch Group was ever made public.

“Anything else?” John asked.

“Nothing.” Lucy closed her laptop, her mind still lingering on how to break through her mentor’s second line of defense. “Once I crack it and find more, I’ll let you know. I’m heading back for now.”

John just gave her a hum of acknowledgement and said nothing more.

After the office door closed, he took out his phone and made a call.

Kenneth picked up quickly. “What is it?”

“I sent a file to your phone.” John voiced the suspicion in his mind. “Find a way to arrange a paternity test between that man

and Sierra.”

“Got it.” Kenneth agreed without hesitation.

Sierra had no idea that John already knew everything she wanted to find out. She also didn’t know he was already several steps ahead of her.

Right now, she was still in the hospital room with Anna. Seeing that her mother showed no sign of waking up, she leaned on the bed and held Anna’s hand, talking about recent small things and about the failed divorce.

As she talked, Sierra suddenly felt very tired.

“Madam, if you don’t wake up soon… Your precious daughter won’t be able to handle this much longer,” Sierra murmured. “I don’t really know what to do anymore. I just can’t win.”

She poured her heart out to Anna.

A month had passed with no sign of Anna waking. Sierra was afraid that when the two months were up, nothing would change. By then, she wouldn’t be able to take it anymore.

Dr. Smith came in to check on her and greeted her. “Still keeping your mom company?”

“Yes, doctor.” Sierra stood up, the anxiety in her brows completely obvious. “Be honest with me. Can my mom really wake up in the next two months?”

Dr. Smith answered without hesitation. “Yes.”

“Really?” Sierra still felt unsure.

“When have I ever lied to you?” Dr. Smith closed his file. “Your mother’s condition is getting better every day. She should wake up soon, about two weeks give or take.”

That answer finally eased the tightness in Sierra’s chest. The weight pressing on her heart lifted a lot.

After that, she stayed busy at home before going to Campanile Estate to play with Tommy. Knowing he was about to leave for summer camp, she couldn’t help but feel worried.

On Monday, when she took him to get on the bus, she reminded him repeatedly about all the details.

Seeing how careful and worried she was, John said, “If you’re really that worried, cancel your business trip. I’ll buy a place near the camp and stay there with you.”

“It’s fine,” Sierra said. She was worried, but not to the point of wanting to keep her son tied to her side every second. “Don’t worry, Mom, I’ll take good care of myself.” Tommy liked the idea of summer camp. “I’m a grown–up now.”
