Regrets Come Too Late (Sierra and Johnny) novel Chapter 300

Sierra’s pale lips opened.

She was about to argue back at Richard when he spoke again, his next words carrying a silent threat. If you dare walk away, I’ll go after Holly and Nicholas. I’ve never been a good person.

You wouldn’t dare,Sierra hissed, trying to crush him with sheer will alone.

You know I would,John said.

Sierra’s hands clutched next to her. She was so furious that her knuckles turned white, her nails digging into her palms hard enough to leave marks.

You can show mercy to everyone else,John said, something tight and aching in his chest as she looked at her. But you only ever stay cruel to me.

You brought that on yourself. When Sierra hardened her heart, her tongue turned sharp.

Yes.John’s voice was flat. Yes, I brought it on myself. But husband and wife are one. If I have to suffer, you don’t get to run away. Jade City and the Campanile Estate are your home. Even when we both became nothing but ash at the turn of the century, you’re still getting buried with me.

Can you stop being so unreasonable?Sierra said, genuinely afraid now.

If he really used Holly and Nicholas to threaten her, she knew she wouldn’t be able to stand by and do nothing.

But she also couldn’t live with watching him care about another woman while he was still with her, and she couldn’t ignore what had already happened in the past.

You can give up on leaving Jade City right now,John said slowly. His eyes were calm in a way that felt almost unhinged. You’re not getting away. You’re not going anywhere.

He turned and walked out as soon as he finished, never looking back at the hatred, disgust, and hurt in her eyes. He was afraid he would soften his heart, afraid he wouldn’t be able to stand seeing her this miserable.

I will walk away eventually!Sierra said, her defiance flaring.

The more he tried to cage her, the farther she wanted to run.

John didn’t look back. He left the break room and stepped into the empty hallway. The tall figure that usually looked so sharp and calm seemed so lonely now.

Sierra leaned against the wall, a heavy storm of emotion spreading through her chest. She stayed there for a long time before she finally managed to pull herself together and go back to the open office to work overtime.

However, one’s mood could easily affect one’s creativity.

She stared at the canvas for what felt like forever and still couldn’t add a single stroke. Her mind was full of only two things: her mom waking up for a brief moment, and John refusing to divorce her.

Why are you still at this stage?Sterra did not know when Leona had walked over. Her puzzled gaze landed on the screen, which looked almost the same as Sierra’s rough draft.

Sierra snapped out of it, her mood obviously low. I don’t know how to move forward.

You have enough skill to know where to begin,Leona stated. There was real worry in her eyes now. She glanced around at the others, then lowered her voice. Is it because of Mr. Henderson?

Sierra froze for a second, a little surprised she had figured it out.

I saw Mr. Henderson come out of the break room a little after eight,Leona said quietly. His expression looked pretty much the same as usual, but he felt different. Colder. Like he was mad.

Sierra tried to force a smile.

He was mad.

Shouldn’t she be the angry one?

It’s late. If you can’t draw anything, then stop for the night,Leona said, looking at the canvas full of nothing but smudges of colors. You can explain it to your mentor tomorrow. She probably won’t say much.
