Chapter 304
“Go back and get some rest.” John forced everything down until he was calm again. “You still have work tomorrow.”
Sierra walked out without a word.
In the elevator, she had wanted to talk things through with him. If he could give a solid reason, show he was willing to change, seriously apologize for what he had done before, and promise never to repeat it, she could try to forgive some of the past.
Now, she understood that it was a dead end.
He refused to let anyone into his heart and to tell the whole truth. How were they supposed to solve anything by talking with that kind of wall between them?
The elevator doors opened on the eighteenth floor. Sierra hurried out and crashed straight into someone.
Bang!
She slammed into someone. Before she even saw who it was, she blurted, “Sorry!”
“That really hurts!” Leona rubbed her lower back. She had been standing with her back to the elevator. “Why are you walking so fast? This is going to cost you at least two meals.”
“Leona?” Sierra froze for a second.
She checked Leona over to make sure she was alright and asked, “Why are you still here?”
“Fanny’s back already.” Leona dropped her hand from her back and explained the reason. “I was worried that if you went back by yourself, she would fire a barrage of questions again, so I figured I should just wait for you, and we could go back together.”
If the two of them came back late together, Fanny would just think they had gone out somewhere. If Sierra went back alone, Fanny would definitely gossip after everything that had already happened, and Sierra wanted to avoid the trouble.
“Thanks.” Sierra thanked her.
“Don’t make me feel like a stranger,” Leona said as she walked with her toward their suite. “What were you rushing for just now? Did you argue with Mr. Henderson?”
“It wasn’t really an argument. We just can’t agree on some things, and there’s no talking it through.” Sierra didn’t say much more. Other than Holly, she never shared every detail of her private life with anyone. “Don’t worry about it.”
Leona didn’t press her. “Let’s drop our stuff off and go eat.”
“Sure,” Sierra nodded.
By the time they finished dinner, it was already past seven in the evening.
Fanny was in the living room scrolling on her phone. When she saw them come back, she greeted them, then went right back to chatting on her phone.
A little after nine that night, Sierra washed up and stretched out on the bed. She was just about to make a video call to Tommy when she got a call from his teacher. She picked up without a second of hesitation.
“Hello?” Sierra started.
“Is this Tommy’s mother?” The voice on the other end sounded tense.
Abad feeling shot through Sierra. “Yes.”
The teacher spoke quickly, her words full of concern. “I’m Tommy’s teacher. He had just eaten something and had an allergic reaction. It’s very serious…”

Sierra had no idea how she ended that call with Ms. Smith, Tommy’s teacher.
Her mind held only one thought.
Tommy was in a bad spot, and his allergic reaction was very serious. John’s people had already taken him to the hospital. For the moment, no one knew how he was doing.
Sierra didn’t even change out of her pajamas. She ran straight for the nineteenth floor, still in her slippers. The worry in her chest felt almost solid, and it was so heavy it hurt.
“Sierra? Where are you going?” Fanny called after her twice when she saw Sierra rush out in a panic. When Sierra didn’t answer, she followed and watched her go up to the nineteenth floor.
“Do you know why Sierra went up to the nineteenth floor in the middle of the night in her pajamas?” Fanny went back and started gossiping with Leona, who had just come out of the shower. “She was still in slippers. You think she went to see Mr. Henderson?”
Leona frowned.
