Sierra still felt a tightness in her chest. With John’s resources, finding out the truth behind what happened would not be difficult.
But Tommy was just at death’s door. She had no idea whether there would be any lasting damage.
“He has always been healthy. He’ll be fine,” John said. He saw the worry on her face as she walked over and reached out to pull her into his arms.
Sierra shoved him away at once, her eyes full of pure disgust. The way he treated their child’s safety like it was nothing made her physically recoil from him.
“I understand you don’t want to touch me, that you hate and despise what I’ve done.” John’s gaze locked onto her, heavy with pressure. “But don’t forget the agreement you just signed.”
Sierra’s whole body went rigid.
John stepped in close, bending toward her until she could see the fine hair on his face. “Tommy is still hospitalized. If I’m not in a good mood, he might not walk out of there alive.”
“What are you trying to do?” For the first time, Sierra was genuinely afraid.
She was afraid John would lose his mind. Afraid he would do just about anything to their son just to get what he wanted, no
matter how cruel it was.
“What I do depends on how obedient you are,” John said. He took her hand, his thumb brushing over her skin. “Be my obedient wife, and nothing will happen to him. Otherwise, I won’t mind having them inject something into him.”
Smack!
Sierra slapped him across the face. She had used every bit of strength she had, and a bright handprint quickly bloomed on John’s
cheek.
Sierra glared at him, shaking with anger, and forced out each word. “Are you even human?!”
“I can be,” John said, accepting it all without a flicker. “Or maybe I’m not.”
As long as he could keep her by his side, he would accept it even if she saw him as utterly unforgivable in his malice.
Sierra was shaking all over from anger.
She had thought that after all these years of marriage, she at least knew him a little. She knew that while he was ruthless to outsiders, he had always been a responsible father to Tommy. He played with Tommy, granted his wishes, and reasoned with him. If Tommy was mistreated, he’d be the first to speak up.
When they bickered, it might sound harsh on the surface. In truth, the father and son were just playing.
Yet now, looking at the man in front of her saying things like this, she suddenly felt she no longer knew him at all.
“Done letting your anger out?” John’s expression didn’t change, his tone as flat as ever. “If not, keep hitting me. Either side, your choice.”
“If anything happens to Tommy, I won’t ever forgive you.” Sierra wasn’t joking. If he really let them do something awful to Tommy, she wouldn’t mind crossing the line, even if she had to break the law.
“As long as you behave and listen, nothing will happen to him,” John repeated.
Sterra felt like she couldn’t catch her breath for a second. All kinds of emotions tangled together until it felt like something was tearing inside her.
“Go downstairs and get your things up.” John’s voice was very calm. “From now on, you live with me. We go to and from work

together.”
There was hatred in Sierra’s eyes. Her stance towards him was one of complete hostility.
John reached for her hand. “Go.”
Sierra pulled away. “I’m waiting until Tommy is safe.”
The moment those words left her mouth, John’s phone rang. He glanced at the screen, saw it was the hospital director, then looked at Sierra and turned on the speaker before answering.
