Chapter 310
John ended the call, then started a video chat. Only after Sierra saw with her own eyes that Tommy was truly out of danger did the tight knot in her chest loosen a little.
“Now that you know he’s safe, you should go downstairs and get your things,” John said as he put his phone away. His voice and gaze weighed down on her with a cool, steady force.
Sierra didn’t want to go.
She didn’t want anyone else to know about her relationship with him, but with things already reaching this point, she no longer had a choice. John had just proved he could watch Tommy be in danger and remain unmoved. If she refused to listen, he might really do something terrible.
She didn’t have the courage to bet on it.
She simply couldn’t.
“I have one condition,” Sierra said.
John’s mood stayed steady. “Say it.”
“From now on, you’re not allowed to interfere with my work, and you’re not allowed to make our relationship public at the company.”
She didn’t want all the hard work she had put in to end up being erased. She didn’t want everything she worked for to evaporate because people believed she had simply used her connections.
She did not want her value tied to John.
“The first one is fine.” John’s voice was low as his eyes rested on her. “The second one is not.”
“Why not?” Sierra asked.
“Is it that embarrassing to be with me?” John replied.
Sierra no longer even felt like talking to him.
He still didn’t understand.
He didn’t understand why she refused to let their relationship be known at work.
She knew that she and her coworkers, in the end, were simply guests in one another’s lives. However, the things she had fought for with her own two hands hadn’t come easily. She didn’t want people to think she was just a rich wife playing dress–up at work.
Words like that would quietly wipe out her worth.
“If you don’t want to go, I’ll get your things for you,” John said.
He truly couldn’t follow her thinking when it came to this. All he knew was that he had given her a card she could swipe as much as she pleased, yet she still chose to work hard and wear herself out. She seemed a little silly to him.
Still, since she liked it, he wouldn’t push too hard and risk upsetting her. He figured he would treat it as her wanting to play pretend.
“No.” Sierra refused. “I’ll go myself.”
She turned and left his room, heading for the eighteenth floor.
When she came back, Fanny and Leona both looked straight at her, one curious, one worried.
“You ran off in such a rush just now. Did something happen?” Fanny asked. Her expression didn’t show much worry, however. ”

Do you need our help?”
“No.” Sierra walked into her room.
Leona and Fanny both stood in the doorway watching.
Sierra packed all of her things into her suitcase. Like a machine without feeling, she finished packing up and pulled the suitcase out. It made Leona really concerned to see her like this.
“What happened?”
They both assumed she was leaving.
Naturally, Leona thought something bad had happened.
Sierra opened her mouth, hesitating over how to answer.
At this time, John suddenly appeared in the doorway. “May I come in?”
Fanny froze.
“Of course!” she blurted out.
John stepped in. He was dressed smartly, exuding the same composed demeanor. He walked up to Sierra and took the suitcase from her hand without a second thought.
“I’ll take it.”
