Chapter 31
She was wondering why Kenneth, who was supposed to be humble and polite with a good reputation, seemed so different from
the rumors.
“Why?” She couldn’t exactly comprehend it.
John’s gaze was cold, as if he were looking at someone insignificant with his harsh words.
“Just look at how clueless you can get without me. The truth is that there’s no end to how clueless you can get.”
“You know better than anyone else if I’m clueless or you’re just being a scum,” Sierra shot back as she met his eyes.
It was the first time that she clearly separated the two of them.
“If you didn’t meddle in my life, none of this would have happened.”
The mood around John grew even heavier, his expression dark.
Sierra took her phone back from Kenneth and threw John one last sentence. “If you are man enough, just live your life with Pamela and stop bothering me.”
She left with Holly without another word.
Once only John and Kenneth were left in the bathroom, the air felt stuffy, like standing in the eye of a storm.
“Looks like your wife doesn’t appreciate your effort,” Kenneth said as he cleared his throat.
John shot him a look.
Kenneth stopped right away. “Fine, I’ll shut up.”
John waited until Sierra was gone before asking, “What about the surveillance footage I sent you? Did you find anything?”
“It’s quite strange, to be honest. That man looked so familiar, but I couldn’t find anything about him.” Kenneth then continued, “Normally, I would have dug up everything about him by now, but I have no clue who he is or where he lives at all. The most important part is that mother–in–law of yours.”
Kenneth then looked at John seriously.
John simply said a single word. “Continue.”
“When I tried to check her background, the records stopped at her marriage to your father–in–law. I couldn’t find anything before that. Now I’m starting to think her identity is anything but ordinary.”
John’s eyes darkened.
He had never really looked into Sierra’s mother.
They got married not long before her mother got into a car accident and fell into a coma. He only knew her name was Anna Bell, and that she shared the same surname as Sierra’s father. She doesn’t have much presence in the Bell family normally.
“Keep looking into Sierra’s mother,” John said quietly. “We have to get to the bottom of her and that man’s identities. Find out
at least one of them.”
Sierra didn’t know any of this. After she and Holly left the hotel and got in the car, Sierra finally let out a sigh of relief.
“Good thing you showed up.”
“I almost didn’t make it,” Holly said, cursing as she drove. “I didn’t expect John to pull something this low. If I hadn’t noticed

something was wrong, I wouldn’t have even known you messaged me.”
Sierra glanced at her. “What do you mean?”
