Chapter 324
“Is that so?” John asked Lance, his lips forming a smile.
“Yes,” Lance answered quickly.
The young men made some awkward smiles. “We just thought she looked upset, so we said a few things to cheer her up. Please don’t take it too seriously, sir.”
Lance blinked in confusion.
A minute ago, it had just been “her man.” Now, it was “sir.”
“I don’t mind. Keep going,” John said. He pulled Sierra’s hand into his, his voice low and smooth. “She hasn’t been in a good mood lately.”
They all just looked at Sierra, feeling a little unsure.
Lance’s brain froze for a bit before asking, “Uh, boss? Isn’t it a little…strange to let other men cheer up your own wife?”
John took his time to reply. “There’s nothing strange about it. If Sierra’s upset and spending some money can make her happy. I’m more than happy to pay.”
Sierra stayed silent.
So did everyone else.
Even Lance couldn’t find any suitable words.
That one line shut the whole table down.
“I should learn from these young men how to console someone and make them feel better,” John added, his dark eyes resting on Sierra. His warm hand slowly rubbed hers.
The young men could feel the back of their outfits starting to become damp from the sweat.
John glanced at the group, who wouldn’t even look him in the eye. “Why aren’t you trying to cheer her up? Go on.”
“How are they supposed to do that with you sitting here?” Sierra had no idea what he was playing at. “Do you think everyone is as shameless as certain people?”
“I’ll go sit over there.” John stood without hesitation and gently patted head. “Talk whatever you want, drink as much as you like. I’m right here.”
Despite all her calmness, Sierra’s heart skipped a beat when she heard those words. She could feel how skilled John truly was.
On one hand, he threatened her as well as refused to come clean about Pamela and anything tied to his promises. On the other hand, he treated her so well that she couldn’t even hate him all the way through.
Every time she felt ready to let go completely, he would treat her a little better and give her a little hope, making her unable to let go again.
