Without John sharing a bed with her, Sierra slept better and woke feeling refreshed for once.
After breakfast, she gave Tommy a few reminders, then got ready to go to the Lane residence to tutor Eden.
Grant immediately arranged a car to take her there.
When he saw her, Eagon’s eyes widened. “Sierra?”
Sierra nodded slightly and walked inside. Eden was thrilled to see her and ran over to give her a big hug.
“Are you here to teach Eden?” Eagon followed them into the dance studio, looking like he wanted to say something.
Sierra didn’t sense that anything was wrong and answered honestly, “Yes. I wasn’t sure if I’d be back this Saturday last week, so I told you I’d let you know if anything changed. Otherwise, we’d stick to Saturdays as usual.”
“I know,” Eagon said with a nod. “But…”
He let the rest trail off, as if he couldn’t finish the sentence.
Sierra grew even more confused.
With one hand in his pocket, Eagon walked over to stand in front of Eden. After weighing it over, he chose a different way to tell her. “Didn’t John say anything to you?”
“Say what?”
When he saw that she really had no idea what was going on, Eagon said, “He called me yesterday to quit on your behalf. He said you wouldn’t be coming to teach Eden anymore and told me to find her a new teacher.”
Anger surged up in Sierra’s chest.
“If I had a choice, I’d still rather have you teach her,” Eagon added.
“I remember when we signed the contract, you and Solomon both promised I wouldn’t lose this job because of John,” Sierra said. She remembered every detail clearly. “Does that still count?”
“If you and John really had fallen out, of course it would,” Eagon admitted. “But you two have made up now, haven’t you?”
Their whole purpose from the start had been to irritate John. If they kept Sierra as Eden’s tutor now, John would almost certainly retaliate. And with everything his best friend was already dealing with, Eagon didn’t want to add more to his list of problems.
“Understood.” Sierra knew exactly what he meant.
“If you’re willing to help me, find out how Gabby’s doing and help arrange a meeting with her, I can keep you on,” Kagon said at last, his gaze resting on her.
“That’s fine,” Sierra refused without a second’s hesitation.
“Why not?” Eagon asked.
“I already told you why last time,” Sierra sald simply.
With his resources, tracking someone down and getting information was easy. If he still couldn’t reach her or get her to show up, it only meant that “Gabby” didn’t want to be found. Since she didn’t want any contact, there was no reason for Sierra to interfere.
Eagon’s eyes stayed on her, the gears in his brain churning
Sierra crouched down and said gently to Eden, “Keep working hard with your new teacher. With your talent and effort, you’ll

“I will!” Eden nodded.

Sierra didn’t stay any longer. She knew the matter was already decided, so no matter what she said, this was already a lost job.
“Ms. Bell, let me walk you out!” Eden grabbed her hand, then shot a fierce look sideways at Eagon. “Not you.”
Eagon fell silent and did as she said.
At the door, Eden glanced back into the house to make sure no one was listening.
Only then did she lean close to Sierra and say, “The Gabby my dad mentioned is my mom. Her name’s Gabrielle Quinn. She hates my dad, so please don’t help him pass on messages or set up a meeting with her.”
Sierra had already guessed as much. “Alright.”
“I’ll miss you!” Eden hugged her again.
