“Whatever.” Cindy had felt pressure for a long time. Every time she saw Sierra, her guilt only grew heavier. “If I get fired, at least I won’t have to pay that ridiculous penalty.”
Anger flared inside Pamela.
She still didn’t ask anyone about it, but she had her answer by the end of the workday.
Sierra hadn’t shut down her computer yet when John arrived at Origin Games and walked straight to her desk as everyone watched.
“Are you finished?” John wore a fitted suit, neat and sharp, the fair skin of his wrist showing below his cuff. “Robin booked a
restaurant. Let’s go have dinner.”
Sierra paused, but her reply was quiet and cool. “Not yet.”
John pulled out Jenny’s empty chair. “I’ll wait.”
With him sitting right in front of Sierra, everyone grew even more gossipy. Even though they kept their voices low, Sierra still caught bits and pieces.
“I always thought Sierra was the one who started their conversations. Turns out the one who always speaks first is Mr. Henderson. He looks so cold and hard to approach, though.”
“Exactly. Cold in public, loyal at home. Who wouldn’t like a husband like that?”
“They pretended not to know each other earlier. It’s so adorable.“”
As the whispers hovered around her, Sierra shut down her computer.
It wasn’t that their words affected her; the problemi was the man sitting next to her. His presence was too strong, and she couldn’t ignore the way he kept looking at her.
The moment the screen went dark, John picked up her bag with his right hand and took her hand with his left.
One of the onlookers grinned. “See you tomorrow, Sierra. Goodbye, Mr. Henderson.”
John gave a slight nod and left with Sierra.
They had just stepped into the elevator when Pamela rushed over and blocked the doors, her eyes full of complaint as she stared
at John.
“What are you doing? Are you trying to embarrass me on purpose?”
John looked at her, not understanding what she meant.
“You just announced your relationship with Sierra in front of the whole company! What does that make me?” The thought of being labeled a homewrecker made Pamela more and more upset.
“Ms. Sanders, whatever do you mean?” John spoke calmly.
Pamela was stunned for a moment.
She glanced behind her and saw that other colleagues were leaving the office as they finished work. Afraid of becoming a topic of gossip, she stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the basement level.
Seeing how close John and Sierra were standing, she said, “I want you to take me home.”
She had heard they were going out to dinner. She refused to believe she couldn’t stir up trouble between them like this.
John stopped beside the car Robin was driving and said calmly, “Get in.”

Pamela froze.
She couldn’t make sense of him at all.
Wasn’t he trying to make up with Sierra? Now, he was ignoring dinner with Sierra just to take her home. Wasn’t he afraid Sierra would refuse to speak to him for the rest of her life?
“Ms. Sanders!”
“Are you driving Mr. Henderson and Sierra?”
“Good evening, Mr. Henderson.”
“Ms. Sanders, are you heading home? I can give you a ride home if we’re going in the same direction.”
A group of coworkers came past, calling out one after another.
Pamela looked at Sierra and John, who were already seated in the car, and forced down her feelings. She put on her usual friendly smile. “It’s fine. I’ll take a cab.”
She turned her coworkers down and didn’t say anything more.
