John had no idea what Jubilee was saying on the other end. He only saw Sierra slowly stop eating as the call went on, strong emotion gathering in her eyes.

“Are… Are you entirely certain?” For the first time, Sierra felt a surge of emotion in her chest so strong that it almost hurt.

“Why would I even lie to you about something like this?” Jubilee didn’t even comment on Sierra using a formal tone with her again. “Just come over. Try to keep your emotions calm on the way, alright?”

There was no way Sierra could stay calm now.

She put her fork and knife down before rushing out with her phone in hand. Two seconds later she hurried back, grabbed her car keys, and left again. She started her car faster than it ever had before.

John was stunned.

He was just about to go after her when his own phone rang. As soon as he picked up, he heard Dr. Smit’s voice coming from the other side.

“Mr. Henderson, Ms. Anna Bell are awake.”

By the time John went outside, all he could see were the taillights of Sierra’s car. He immediately had someone drive another car to follow her. He had never expected her to be this hasty.

Sierra was completely overwhelmed. While she waited at a red light, her mind ran through everything she wanted to say to her mom. Sweat covered her palms where they gripped the steering wheel. Her heart was beating faster than ever.

The light turned green. Immediately, she hit the gas and sped toward the hospital.

A drive that usually took thirty or forty minutes was cut down to just over twenty. She parked her car, slammed the door behind her, and ran toward the hospital.

By the time she reached the ward, she was out of breath. Her hair and clothes had gone slightly messy from all the running.

She burst into the ward, her gaze sweeping past the doctors and nurses and locking onto the woman in the bed, whose eyes had opened.

“First, we’ll check your level of consciousness.”

“Can you hear me? Blink or nod if you can.”

“Try moving your fingers or lifting your leg so we can see how your limbs are working.”

“How do you feel? Any discomfort…?”

Sierra could barely hear Dr. Smith’s words as they entered her ears. All she could see was her mother’s face, thin and haggard yet deeply familiar. She didn’t dare blink, afraid that if she did, everything in front of her would turn out to be just a dream.

Anna seemed to sense something in the next second and turned toward the door.

Their eyes met.

The emotions inside Sierra finally snapped; her nose stung, her eyes turned red, and her body trembled.

Her mom was really awake.
