Chapter 356
Jubilee gritted her teeth and looked at Sierra. “Then why didn’t you say so earlier? You made me worry for so long!”
“You never asked,” Sierra said.
“You have the same talent for getting on my nerves as your mother,” Jubilee complained to Anna. “I don’t care. You two owe me compensation for emotional distress.”
“Thank you,” Anna said from the heart.
“Get lost,” Jubilee replied in her usual tone. “Don’t try to make me feel awkward.”
Anna smiled. She was just the same as before.
Sierra held her mother’s arm, somewhat clingy. “Mom, can I sleep with you tonight?”
Anna patted her head and answered as smoothly as she could, “Of course.
Sierra’s heart softened at once, and the tightness in her chest finally eased.
“You must have it hard these days,” Anna reached out and brushed the hair off Sierra’s forehead. Her touch was gentle and full of affection, though she still couldn’t speak that smoothly. “When I recover, I’ll take you away.”
Sierra froze. She slowly straightened and looked at Anna, disbelief deep in her eyes.
Seeing that the cameras were off, Anna told her everything. “I heard everything you said to me every afternoon, but I couldn’t answer you or give you strength.”
Anna knew John had let Sierra down, how much pressure she had been under, how hard it had been for her.
She wanted to wake up and tell her daughter that she was there, but all she could see was darkness. No matter which way she tried to go, she couldn’t get out.
“If you want to leave, I’ll take you.” Anna held Sierra’s hand, speaking slowly. “You can choose wherever you want in the world.”
Sierra threw her arms around Anna.
Her mother was the best!
They didn’t know that John was leaning against the wall and had heard every word. Darkness settled in his eyes.
Pamela was calling again, but he didn’t notice with his phone on silent. He stood there for more than five minutes, then walked into the ward as if nothing had happened.
“Mr. Lynch has left. If you need anything, I’ll be upstairs. You can come to me anytime,” John said.
“I can handle things here. Go home and rest,” Sierra replied in the same tone she had always used.
John’s gaze rested on her. She was planning to leave, yet she still cared. Was she trying to make him let down his guard and let her go?
“If anything happens here, I can deal with it right away.” John gathered his thoughts and glanced at Anna. “Stay with your mom. I’ll handle everything else.”
Seeing how stubborn he was, Sierra didn’t argue with him. “Thank you.”
“No need to thank me.” John flicked her forehead lightly, his indulgent tone the same as ever. “Have some rest. I’m going up to
talk to the doctors.”
“Alright,” Sierra answered.

John left.
The moment he stepped out of the ward, the softness faded from his face, leaving only the coldness in his dark eyes.
When Dr. Smith saw him in the office, he was startled by the cold atmosphere around him and spoke more carefully. “Mr. Henderson?”
Did something happen to Anna? What happened?
