Regrets Come Too Late (Sierra and Johnny) novel Chapter 359

Chapter 359

After accompanying her mom working on her rehab exercises in the past few days, Sierra had finally gotten a clear picture of her assets and understood that Jubilee hadn’t been joking around.

Her mom had a lot of money.

The grant deeds Sierra had seen before covered only part of it. There were other assets that hadn’t even been listed.

Anna told her to focus on her own life and stop worrying about money. She also said the penalty for Sierra quitting her job was nothing in her eyes.

Sierra was still thinking about all this when the car pulled into Campanile Estate. As soon as it stopped, she got out and headed straight for the villa. Grant told her John wasn’t back yet, so she took a shower and changed into fresh clothes.

John came home about an hour later.

Exactly nine at night.

He walked in wearing a suit, and Grant went over to report, Sir, Ms. Bell needs to speak with you. She’s waiting for you in the study.

John glanced up toward the second floor, his dark eyes unreadable, and he gave a quiet reply.

A moment later, the door into the study opened.

Hearing movement, Sierra looked over and saw John walking in. He unbuttoned his suit jacket as he came, his voice as low as ever. Grant said you needed to talk to me about something?

I do,Sierra nodded.

John set his jacket aside. What is it?

Seeing how calm he looked, Sierra went straight to the point. I want to resign. I want to focus on taking care of my mom at the hospital.

The doctor said she’ll be able to walk like normal in a month at most.John rolled his sleeves up twice, revealing his strong forearms. I’ll approve a month of leave. There’s no need to resign.

I still want to,Sierra said, standing her ground.

If she didn’t quit, how was she supposed to leave? She knew it would be irresponsible toward Origin Games.

But she also knew that one million dollars in penalty would be enough for them to hire someone even better to take over her work.

I thought you liked this job?John poured himself a glass of water and took a sip, his tone no different from usual. This is the first game you’ve ever worked on. You even went on a work trip for training. You really want to walk away from it?

He knew exactly what she was thinking, but he just didn’t say it out loud. Instead, he gave her a chance.

I’m not walking away. There are just more important things than this waiting for me now,Sierra said, worried he would get suspicious. So, she tried to make her sound as reasonable as ever. Even if my mom can walk like a normal person in a month, getting her back to how she was before would take much longer.

When she can walk on her own, I’ll bring the best rehab team here to stay with her.John casually blocked off her escape route with a single line.

I don’t trust anyone else,Sierra said.

John simply stared straight at her.

Sierra felt a flicker of guilt, but her face didn’t show it. It’s like after I had Tommy. You didn’t trust anyone to look after me back then, either.

Back then, John had genuinely cared about her. He had paid for a postpartum center that cost millions, yet he still insisted on handling everything about her personally.

Take a month’s leave first,John said as he sat down beside her, his voice still gentle. If you still want to resign after a month, I’ll approve it. This job matters to you. I don’t want you to act on impulse and regret it later.

Sierra didn’t know what to make of it.

In the past, John would have agreed right away when she wanted to resign and told her he could support her, so she didn’t need to work so hard.
