Chapter 368

“She was at my wedding with John, too.” Sierra tried to jog Holly’s memory. “Her hair was a little longer back then.”
Holly thought about it, but nothing came to mind. That day, her eyes and her thoughts had been fully focused on Sierra.
Watching her best friend marry, she should have been happy. Instead, when Sierra put on the wedding dress and walked down the aisle with John, Holly broke down in tears. Looking back, she had probably cried because she was worried Sierra wouldn’t live a good life.
“Sierra.” Holly’s mood suddenly grew heavy.
Sierra noticed the shift. “What is it?”
“Why don’t you just acknowledge your biological dad?” Holly had never met Nathan, but she had heard his name and knew he was the chairman of Lynch Group. “With him backing you, it would be much easier to deal with John.”
“I’m not doing that.” Sierra refused without a moment of hesitation.
“You know what kind of man John is better than I do.” Holly knew how stubborn Sierra could be and tried to slowly reason with her. “He has a lot of ways to…”
“If I acknowledge Nathan, what about everything my mom went through with him?”
Sierra stood her ground stubbornly.
“I don’t know exactly what happened between them, but if she was willing to leave Harbor City and come all the way to Jade City and then marry Lucas, it means he hurt her far worse than John has ever hurt me.”
Sierra only wanted to leave John and get out from under his control.
Her mom had chosen to leave her hometown behind and had never spoken a word about the past.
That kind of pain… Sierra couldn’t even imagine what her mom had lived through.
“You don’t have to be close to him. Just use him to go up against John.” Holly had always known Sierra was as stubborn as a mule. “To put it bluntly, you don’t even need to think of him as a person.”
Sierra lowered her eyes and stayed quiet.
Holly kept trying to persuade her. “He hurt your mom. John hurt you. Let the two of them fight it out. Let them fight, right?”
Of course, Sierra knew there was no real downside for her. From the few times they had met, Nathan had treated her well enough. If she acknowledged him as her father, there was a good chance he would help her deal with John. She could have a future where she didn’t have to worry about.
But if she really did that, what was the point of her mom’s struggle to come to Jade City and give birth to her?
Nathan would get a daughter without lifting a finger. Why should he?
“I know what you’re thinking.” Holly didn’t want Sierra to be this stubborn. “Sometimes, you need to learn how to bend a little. You don’t have to hold on to one idea forever.”
“If I did that, then what John said about Tommy’s custody would come true for me, right?” Just like her name, Sierra’s temper was as stubbornly unbreakable as a mountain range. “If I could bend, I would have let him keep Pamela and used his cards to shop for whatever I wanted.”
She could have lived as his wife without care. She could have lived an easy life with more money than she could ever spend.
But that wasn’t the life she wanted.
“Forget it, then. I won’t try to talk you into it.” Holly gave up. This wasn’t the first time Sierra had been this stubborn. “Just

don’t try to carry everything on your own.”
“Alright.” Sierra nodded.
