“Why so suddenly?” Anna neither agreed nor objected as she looked at Sierra.
“I want to make money. I want to become someone as capable as you.”
In the past, Sierra had not really understood her mother. There were many things Anna had kept from her.
Now, she knew.
Her mom was very good at making money and had an extensive network.
Anna was someone who could live freely without relying on anyone.
“I’ve already left you enough money to last a lifetime.” Anna didn’t want Sierra to suffer that kind of hardship. She had given birth to her only to bring her into this world to see it. “Even if you take Tommy with you, you can live without worries.”
For the first time in her life, Sierra showed unyielding stubbornness. “But I want to.”
“You want it that much?” Anna asked.
Sierra nodded. “Yeah!”
Anna looked at Sierra with a gentle gaze. Seeing the unwavering look in her eyes, she asked, “Is it because of what John said when you were getting divorced?”
“Part of it is, yes,” Sierra answered honestly. She had grown a lot during this time. “But even more, it’s because I want to become strong. I don’t want to be someone who lives entirely off my family.”
Before all of this, she had never noticed any of these problems. Even from her childhood, she had always had her parents protecting her, giving her enough money every month to spend as she pleased.
After she married John, she had John. She only needed to stay home, take care of Tommy, and keep the house in order. She
never had to worry about money.
But after going through so much, she understood that only when she had real abilities and the money was in her own hands could she live with true peace of mind and deal with problems herself when they came, regardless of outside conditions.
“You’re already doing great,” Anna still didn’t want Sierra to suffer any of it. “Your dancing and your illustration work are things I don’t know how to do.”
“That only covers basic living expenses.” Now, Sierra was very clear about what she wanted. “I want to make real money. I want to be stable no matter what happens. Please teach me that.”
“It’s going to be very hard and very tiring,” Anna said.
“I’m not afraid.”
Right now, the thing Sierra feared least was hardship. It only made her feel more grounded.
In the end, Anna agreed.
She walked her through a few basics of starting a business. “Over this time, think about your own strengths and what kind of project you want to do. Once you’ve thought it through, write a business plan for me to look at.”
“Alright,” Sierra said.
Anna went on. “The start–up funds are in that card I gave you. Take however much you need.”
Warmth spread through Sierra’s heart. “Thank you, Mom.”
“My dear, sweet, child…”

Someone was knocking on the door.
Sierra and Anna turned toward the sound and saw Solomon standing at the doorway in a gray suit. With his silver–rimmed passes, his face locked as gentle and refined as eve
“Is it alright if I come in?” he asked politely.
Sierra didn’t know why he was here. “It is.”
Solomon smiled as he turned to the person behind him. “Come in and say hello.”

Who?
Just as the question formed in her mind, a young woman half a head shorter than Solomon stepped in beside him. Her long hair fell over her shoulders. Her foxlike eyes were gentle and composed, and the white dress she wore added a touch of quiet softness
to her.
