Regrets Come Too Late (Sierra and Johnny) novel Chapter 379

Chapter 379

Sierra shook off John’s hand and went upstairs without a word. The worry in her heart spread even faster as she thought about what he had just said.

What if he really did something extreme?

As soon as that thought surfaced, her mom’s words and Holly’s words rushed back one after another.

John’s target was her. As long as she didn’t turn back and let him go crazy, that was that.

But would it really stop there?

Caught between those two lines of thought, Sierra forced herself to suffer for more than an hour.

In the five years they had been married, John had never once lost his temper with her. His behavior had been rotten beyond belief lately, but it hadn’t been the same as anger. She had no idea what he would do if he actually snapped, or what he would look like then.

Someone knocked on the bedroom door.

John’s voice came from outside. Tommy’s already coming through the front gate. He’ll be here in a few minutes.

Sierra opened the door. She didn’t even look at him, just walked past him and out the doorway.

John fell into step behind her, trying to make things better. I’m just worried you’ll leave without saying anything. I wasn’t trying to scare you.

Sierra said nothing.

If she said something before she left, would she still be able to leave?

If you can’t swallow the anger, you can take it out on me.John drew her hand over and stayed right next to her. Don’t keep it bottled up alone. It’s not good for you.

Sierra stopped walking. Don’t you think you’re being a hypocrite?

Huh?John made a low sound.

If you really thought getting angry was bad for my health, you wouldn’t keep giving me reasons to be angry.

Sierra’s resentment toward him ran deep. In some ways, she would rather they just divorce peacefully and part ways.

John asked back, What about you?

Sierra was still angry as she shot back, What do you mean, what about me?

How much of what you have said was genuine and how much wasn’t?John’s voice dropped lower. You say you’re not leaving, but is that really what you think inside?

The atmosphere turned stuffy suddenly. They stood facing each other, and neither spoke.

Until

Mom!Tommy’s clear voice rang out. He ran in and wrapped his arms around Sierra. I missed you so much!

Sierra’s mood brightened in an instant. I missed you, too. How have these last few days been? Did you have fun?

Tommy’s eyes were almost glittering. Yeah, I had fun!

Sierra hugged him gently.

A hint of warmth passed through John’s eyes as he watched. He was just about to call them over to sit and talk when his phone rang in his pocket. The screen lit up with two words.

Pamela Sanders.

John’s gaze darkened.

The timing of her calls recently had been a little too perfect. He refused to believe all of it was a mere coincidence.

I’m going to take this call,John said quietly.
