Kenneth cursed under his breath.

All of them were a lost cause.

After hanging up, he turned to Robin, who counted as half a normal person next to him. “You sure he’ll leave by half–past?”

“I’m sure.” Robin had followed John for many years. On this point at least, he was certain.

“Alright.” Kenneth raised his hand and glanced at his watch. Seeing it was almost five, he forced his temper down. “Then I’ll wait another half hour. If he still hasn’t left by then, I’m taking it out on you.”

Robin stayed silent.

That really was unnecessary.

Time crawled by.

In the past, a few hours passed in a flash when they were out having fun. Now he had waited what felt like an eternity, and not even thirty minutes had gone by.

As he waited, he thought about how John would not be in a good mood when he finally came out. He sent Lucy another message.

[When you’re done, remember to come over. If you won’t think of him, at least think of your mentor’s daughter.]

Lucy did not reply.

Some more time passed before the thirty minutes were finally up.

Looking at the time, Robin walked into the private room, bent down, and lowered his voice to John’s ear.” Ms. Bell hasn’t come, and she hasn’t replied to your messages.”

John’s expression stayed calm, with no sign of anger at all.

The calmer he was, the more fearful everyone else in the room felt.

“Something came up at home. Please, enjoy your meal,” John stood up and let his eyes sweep over the table, one person at a time. “I’m heading back.”

Everyone stood up with stiff smiles. “Take care, sir!”

‘If you don’t leave now, we’ll never be able to have this meal!‘

The moment Kenneth saw him come out, he shot over at once, muttering, “I told you ages ago she was not in Jade City, and you wouldn’t believe me. Do you believe it now?”

“Go to Brilliant Hills,” John said as he got into the car, giving the order to Robin.

Kenneth followed him into the car.

“Brilliant Hills?” Kenneth raised his eyebrow.

“Brilliant Hills is where Ms. Bell and her mother are staying now,” Robin explained. “They have been there ever since they left the hospital.”

Kenneth glanced at a certain someone beside him. He really wanted to ask why they were not living at Campanile Estate. But thinking about how that question would probably make John’s mood even worse, he wisely did not say a word.

After a little more than half an hour, the car pulled up at the Brilliant Hills villa.

They opened the iron gate and crossed the lawn. The front door of the building ahead was tightly shut,

locked on all sides.

John’s heart sank little by little, coldness gathering between his deep frown.

He took out his phone, tapped in Sierra’s number, and dialed. The tone rang and rang, but no one picked up, not even until the call cut off automatically.

He called again.

Same result.

Watching him repeat the same action over and over, Kenneth’s brows furrowed together. He grabbed the phone out of John’s hand just as John was about to dial again.

“She left. She’s gone. How many times do I have to say it?”

“Give it back.” John’s voice was colder than ever.

“You could call until your phone dies and still no one would pick it up,” Kenneth said.

He refused to hand it over and tried to snap him out of it.

“If you want to know where she is, just have Lucy trace her location. Problem solved.”

“Absolutely not.” Lucy’s voice came from nearby, and she appeared a moment later dressed in biker gear and holding a document folder.

Kenneth breathed a sigh of relief when he saw her,
