Chapter 397
“Why?” John’s voice to Sierra was somewhat cold.
“Because I don’t like the cage you built for me.”
Now that Sierra was facing him, her fear had all but disappeared. All that was left was a chest full of resentment and unhappiness.
“I don’t want to play along with your act where you get to keep a wife at home and also another woman outside.”
“She saved my life,” John explained again.
“There are plenty of people in this world who have saved someone,” Sierra said. “Who pays back a favor the way you do?”
“I made her a promise,” John said.
“Stop using that promise as an excuse.” Sierra did not buy it at all. She cared very much that he had dragged her here without a word in advance. “Any normal person would never do something like this.”
The air around John grew colder, but his eyes only became calmer.
Sierra knew.
He was really close to blowing up, but that was his problem. She had given him so many chances, and he had not cherished them. What happened next was on him, no matter how bad things would become.
“I’m giving you a chance to say it one more time. If you came out with Tommy and your mom just to relax for a while, I could let all of this go,” John said. He did not want to fight with her and kept handing her chances one after another. “If not, don’t forget the agreement you signed.”
“John.” Sierra’s face had never been this serious.
John raised his eyes.
They looked straight at each other.
“Go to a hospital and get yourself checked,” Sierra said, but she was not trying to insult him. She meant it. “Your mental state is not normal.”
In their five years of marriage, John had been so calm in front of her. No matter how she pouted or teased him, he had never become angry. He had never even spoken a harsh word to her. He had protected her as if she were something tragile.
She had not thought much of it before and had only taken it as proof that he was a good man who loved her.
But now, she could see it all. That stable calm was just on the surface. Once anything went against his will, he would become
unstable.
“If you come back with me, I’ll do what you say,” John said flatly.
Sierra drew in a deep breath and forced down the surge of emotion. After a long moment, she met his eyes, and the words slipped out.
“Stop being so childish and dumping everything on me. Whether you see a doctor or not is your business. It has nothing to sh with whether I go back with you.”
“I waited for you at the restaurant for more than an hour last night,” John said, dragging the past back out
“And then what?” Sierra said
“You promised you would come,” John said

Sierra held her emotions from spilling out of control. “I said yes because I simply did not want to argue with you.”
John’s eyes grew darker.
Sierra did not want to stand there under that cold pressure. “If there’s nothing else, I’m going back home. I don’t fe Tommy at home alone.”
“Lucy’s there,” John said, his mouth barely open as he told her. Then he added, “Before you give me an answer about this, you can’t leave.”
Sierra fell silent.
