Chapter 401
Kenneth was in a far worse mood than Lucy was. “Aren’t you afraid he might die?”
“Even if you drop dead right now, he wouldn’t,” Lucy said calmly, not worried at all. “Don’t forget, other than his double degrees, he also took medical classes.”
Kenneth froze.
Then it hit him.
“You mean he stabbed himself just so Sierra would see it?”
“Probably not.” After hearing the whole story, Lucy had her own theory. “He doesn’t do self–inflicted acts like that. They probably couldn’t work things out, and he lost it.”
“Then how can you say he won’t die?” Kenneth was worried sick. “The initial assessment was that the knife went in so deep, it might have threatened his life.”
“Even when he snaps, he’s still rational.” Lucy sounded very sure. She saw the entire picture from the outside as an observer.” He won’t let himself die.”
“He’s insane.” Kenneth seldom used those words on John.
Lucy remained unbothered. “That’s a fair evaluation.”
“You’re really not coming?” Kenneth asked.
Lucy glanced at Tommy, who was reading attentively. “No. Sierra was probably scared half to death after what he did. I need to clean up the mess for him.”
Remembering how distracted Sierra was, Kenneth let the matter drop. Any normal person who ran into a lunatic like that would need comforting.
Sierra was in a mess. All she could see in her mind was that streak of scarlet red on John’s white shirt.
Forde was driving the car. When he saw her expression in the rearview mirror, he spoke up.
“Ms. Bell?”
Sierra did not move. She heard him, but she was unable to respond. Her body remained frozen,
“You don’t need to worry. He’s going to be perfectly fine.” Forde tried to reassure her, trying to sound serious. “Lance says the Boss is a divine being and they come with divine protection.”
Sierra denied it. “I’m not worried.”
It had taken everything from her to brace herself and tell John she wasn’t worried. If she admitted she was worried about him now, there was no telling whether he would pull the same stunt again next time.
He was so insane, she had no idea how to handle him. Her threat had only been meant to make him stop, yet he had done it
anyway.
“Weren’t you the one who said there are no gods in this world?” Forde was completely baffled.
“There are,” Sierra said.
“Where?” Forde asked.
“John is one.”
“What?”

Wasn’t that just one of Lance’s bluffs?
The image of the knife stabbing into John replayed in Sierra’s mind repeatedly. “A god of madness.”
“Makes sense,” Forde said in all seriousness, not worried about John at all. “What you said is more convincing than anything Lance says. Next time we argue, I’m going to use this to convince him.”
For the rest of the drive, Forde chatted about all sorts of things. Every topic made him seem a little disturbed, but he was thoroughly enjoying himself.
Sierra was distracted the whole way. She only showed a flicker of reaction when they were almost home. She checked herself. Once she was sure Robin had made her wash off all the blood before she got in the car, her heart eased a little.
