By the time the two of them finished talking, it was already noon.

Anna sent a message saying she wouldn’t be home for lunch, so Sierra only ordered food for herself, Lucy, and Tommy.

They had just finished eating when a message from Robin popped up on her phone.

[Mr. John is out of danger now.]

Sierra then told Lucy about it.

“No matter how maddening he was, he won’t actually kill himself. At worst, he’ll end up half–dead,” Lucy said, sounding completely unsurprised. “His only goal is to win you back. Even when he loses it, he won’t put himself under any real threat.”

“Was he like this before, too?” Sierra asked.

“In the past. He used to take it out on other people.” Lucy remembered what happened in the past quite clearly. “Especially his parents.”

When she thought about John’s ties with Danny and the others, Sierra didn’t ask about it anymore. Still, the more she knew, the softer she would go with him. It was better to keep her heart cold for now.

Meanwhile, at the hospital….

John was pushed into his ward after surgery. He looked a little weak in his hospital gown, but he didn’t forget to ask about Sierra.

“Has she replied?”

“Not yet.” Robin’s fingers tightened slightly around the phone. “She’s probably busy.”

Kenneth let out a cold snort and said nothing, but the mockery was obvious.

John glanced at him. His presence remained, even when he was lying flat on the bed, injured.

“What are you staring at me for? If you’ve got the guts, get up and hit me,” Kenneth snapped, one eyebrow raised.

He was still furious over what John had done.

“I really don’t know what’s in that head of yours. What are you doing, stabbing yourself for no reason?”

John’s eyes went dark, and he did not answer. Sierra’s flat, emotionless response kept replaying in his head.

He pulled his thoughts back to the issue at hand and asked, “Have you locked down the news from spreading?”

“I did what I could. This is Harbor City, after all.” Robin had already handled everything by the time Kenneth arrived. “Jade City might not know what happened to you, but that doesn’t mean the big families here won’t.”

“Right,” John answered lightly.

Kenneth stared at him. “That’s all?”

“Have Lucy keep an eye on Sierra and the others for the time being,” John said. His voice was a little weak, but solid. “If the King family makes a move, she can deal with it however she wants.”

“The King family?” Kenneth blinked.

“Ms. Anna Bell’s original name was Anna King. She’s the daughter of the patriarch of the King family.” Before coming over,

Robin did not answer.

The Boss had told him not to dig into that. It was her private business, and it had nothing to do with his relationship with Ms. Bell, so there was no need to investigate.

“Pull back some of the bodyguards on the surface and just leave two at the door later,” John said. “Tell the rest to change into street clothes.”
