“Love?” Sierra shot back. “If that’s your way of loving me, please take it back. I can’t afford it.”
She finished and stood up, with no intention of staying. Everything was already out in the open, so there was no reason to stay any longer.
“Wait!” John stopped her.
Sierra paused and turned around, speaking before he could. “If you want to use Holly and Nicholas to threaten me…”
“You’re not going to ask about my injuries?” John said.
They spoke at the same time.
The air grew still.
A flicker of hurt crossed John’s eyes, so faint it was almost impossible to catch, and vanished a moment
later.
“The doctor said my life isn’t in danger. I can be discharged in two or three weeks of bed rest. So far, there are no complications.” He did not dwell on the fact that she was the one who had held the knife as he simply told her how he was doing. “You don’t need to worry.”
“I’m not worried,” Sierra answered quickly, her fingers tightening without her noticing.
John kept his gaze on her. He wondered how he had never noticed before just how much her words and heart never really aligned.
“If you’re not worried, then fine.” He didn’t expose her. “Be careful on your way home. Send me a message when you get home.”
Sierra did not respond as she simply turned and walked away. Just as she reached the doorway, John
called her name. “Sierra.”
Her hand closed around the doorknob.
Looking at her figure, filled with aloofness, John said, “I won’t touch Holly or Nicholas, but I won’t divorce you either.”
Sierra opened the door and walked out, and she didn’t stop any longer.
“Are the two of you…” Kenneth had only gotten half a sentence out before Sierra walked past him and disappeared down the hall.
“Looks like their talk is anything but pleasant,” Robin said, feeling worn out.
“Isn’t that obvious?” Kenneth replied.
Once Sierra stepped into the elevator, she turned off the recording. She knew John was smart, but she

hadn’t expected him to see through her before she even finished speaking. She had never even said the word divorce. How had he gotten there?
In truth, John had already managed to guess the moment she arrived.
He knew perfectly well she was not there to visit him. If she had been worried, she would have followed Robin to the hospital the day it happened.
For her to come now meant that most likely she wanted to bring up divorce along with everything else while she still had the strength to stand her ground.
After all, Anna had always wanted her to leave him.
And Harbor City was where all of Anna’s connections and resources were located.
After leaving the hospital, someone stepped in front of her before Sierra could even flag a cab to go home.
Two bodyguards in suits stood there with stern expressions. “Please come with us. Our employer would like to see you.”
“Huh?” Sierra blinked.
Employer? Was it someone she knew?
