Chapter 408
A hint of gentleness touched Cyrus King’s eyes as he looked at the confused Sierra. “You’re Sierra Bell, correct?”
Sierra didn’t answer him. “And you are?”
“I’m your grandfather.” As he spoke, Cyrus looked at her as if his gaze was looking at someone else through her. “Would you be willing to come back to the King residence with me so we can have a proper talk?”
“I don’t have a grandfather. My mom’s last name is Bell, not King,” Sierra refused.
“Your grandmother’s last name is Bell.” Cyrus took a photograph from inside his jacket and handed it to her. “This was taken a long time ago. Why don’t you see if that’s your mother when she was young?”
Sierra took it.
Her mother was indeed in the photo.
“If you don’t want to come back to the residence, we can find a quiet place across the street to have a chat,” Cyrus said. He had a natural air of authority, but he subconsciously softened it when he was speaking to Sierra. “If not, we can go to your home.”
Sierra’s brows furrowed. She already had a bad impression of him.
He was already trying to pressure her at their first meeting. He had probably used the same methods on
her mother back then.
“Have you decided?” he asked.
Sierra handed the photo back, her expression distant. “The cafe across the street, then. Ten minutes.”
Letting Cyrus enter their home would only make things harder for her mom.
For more than twenty years, her mother had never mentioned her old family. She had almost certainly been badly hurt back then.
Cyrus agreed readily. “Alright.”
They went to the cafe.
As expected, the entire place had been cleared. Only Cyrus and the butler who stayed with him at all times were there, as well as the bodyguards, who stood in a neat line at the door.
“If you have something to say to me, feel free to,” Sierra said.
“Your temper is a lot like your mother’s,” Cyrus said with a hint of softness, though his voice carried more weight than before. “No surprise, since she did raise you.”
Sierra did not answer.

Anna had never told her anything about what happened between them. She did not know how she was supposed to face these people.
After a long silence, he finally came to the point. “Has your mom been doing well all these years?”
Sierra found him thoroughly insincere, and she didn’t care if the words offended him. “You don’t really care, so there’s no need to ask.”
If he had really cared, why had he never shown up in all the years her mother lay in a coma?
The King family’s influence would have made it simple to find out about Anna. In short, he didn’t care and didn’t care enough.
“She still hates me, then?” he asked.
“I don’t know. My mom never mentioned any of you. If you asked me, she thinks you’re just unimportant guests in her life,” Sierra told him the truth.
A flicker of emotion crossed his eyes, and his expression grew heavier.
After a while, Cyrus changed the subject. “I heard you’re discussing your divorce with John Henderson.”
“That’s my private business. It has nothing to do with you.” Sierra felt his questions growing more and more fake.
If he knew about her and John, how could he not know her mother had been in a coma for years?
To know that and still ask about her mother’s life as if he were in the dark meant that the questions were just small.
“Why are you so prickly, child?” Cyrus’s tone toward her was oddly indulgent. “I only came to see whether you need help. The King family is powerful. Our resources are yours to use if you need them.”
