John’s expression changed little. “Yeah.”
“Have Robin book me a room in a luxury hotel. When the three days are up, I’ll come find you and collect.” All Pamela could think about was making her escape.
John nodded at Robin. He went to make the arrangements right away.
Pamela didn’t stay after that, either.
Not long after, a call came in from Kenneth. “What was that call just now supposed to mean?”
It was clear something wasn’t right when someone as rich as John needed to borrow money.
John briefly explained the situation.
When he finished, Kenneth couldn’t stop blinking. “Isn’t she the one who’s been all over you like her life depends on it? And she pulled so many schemes for it, too. Why is she suddenly giving up?”
“Investigate what has happened during this time,” John said. “Where she’s been, who she’s seen, and whatnot.”
Kenneth went quiet.
“I thought you told me to come back and to do my own thing,” he complained. “Turns out you just want me to run errands for
you.”
“Once you’re done checking, I’ll close that overseas client for you,” John said slowly. “And I’ll help you land that deal you’ve been chasing for a year.”
“Deal!” Kenneth agreed without hesitation.
The call ended.
It wasn’t long before someone knocked on the door.
A moment later, Joey walked in wearing a hospital gown, still carrying a carefree attitude. “We meet again, cousin–in–law.”
John said nothing.
Couldn’t this man sit still even when admitted to the hospital?
“It’s pretty boring at night, and I can’t sleep.” Joey dropped into the chair, crossing one leg over the other “Why don’t we talk about partnership?”
“Go ahead,” John said.
“You really are so easy to talk to, cousin–in–law,” Joey grinned.
John ignored the way he addressed him. The more you reacted to someone like Joey, the happier he became.
“I’ll tell you something. Help me drag my oldest brother down from his position.” Joey didn’t bother with detours. In fact, he was so direct that he hardly sounded like someone from their circle. “This is related to my cousin.”
John’s eyes darkened.
Up until recently, Sierra had never had any connection with the King family. How was this connected to her?
“My aunt’s accident wasn’t one,” Joey said bluntly. “Someone did it.”
“Your evidence?” John’s gaze locked on him.

“I don’t have any hard proof. I overheard it by accident.” Joey’s tone stayed casual. “That little bit of curiosity I had as a kid has kept me stuck ever since. I can’t turn things around after that.”
Joey clicked his tongue after that.
John caught the key point. “Have they found out?”
“Of course they did.” Joey sounded nonchalant. “If they hadn’t, how would I have ended up like this?”
John felt Joey was quite the plotter. He had come looking for him in broad daylight and even chosen to stay in the same hospital. He was clearly trying to drag him in so the rest of the King family would think they had joined forces.
“Whether you agree to work with me or not, my two brothers will definitely start suspecting I told you about it just from these two times we’ve met,” Joey said with a sly grin. “You can’t draw a clear line between us now.”
