Sierra’s eyes lit up. “Really?!”
Anna nodded with a smile. “Really.”
Sierra had never studied any of this, yet she had managed to write a project proposal as impressive as this. While it wasn’t on the same level as those from major corporations, it was bold and full of novel ideas for a first timer.
The newly hired bodyguard, Marcus Moore, walked in, his face as expressionless as ever.
“Madam, Ms. Sierra. There’s someone at the door called Joey King. He says he has an urgent matter to discuss with you.”
Sierra did not even think about it. “I’m not seeing him.”
Marcus’s handsome face was as serious as ever. “He said if you refused, I should tell you that the Madam’s accident back then was not really an accident.”
Sierra’s head rose, and she changed her mind right away. “Let him in.”
“Understood.” Marcus left.
Sierra closed her laptop and kept her eyes on the doorway.
Back in Jade City, when she had seen the deed on her mother’s desk, she had already suspected that what happened back then might have been deliberate.
But judging from Brenda’s attitude and reactions at the time, she simply thought she was overthinking about it.
After all, Sierra couldn’t have stayed at the hospital and taken care of Anna for so long if it had really been on purpose. Nothing about that day had looked planned, either.
“Don’t worry.” Anna went back to her usual calm after freezing for a second. “It’s nothing serious.”
“It is,” Sierra said, unable to hide how much this mattered to her.
Her mother had been unconscious for so long, lying in bed for more than three years. How could that not be something serious?
When Joey came in, he caught her saying the last sentence to Anna. He greeted them like he had always belonged to the family, grinning ear to ear.
“Aunt Anna! Sierra! Nice to meet you!”
Sierra could only manage a stare. She had never met anyone with this kind of personality.
“Stop claiming random people as family.”
“How am I claiming people as family randomly?” Joey’s smile never left his lips, two dimples appearing when he grinned. Aunt Anna is Grandpa Cyrus’s daughter, and you are Aunt Anna’s daughter, so we’re family.”
Sierra’s brows furrowed. She was about to say they had nothing to do with the King family when Anna pressed lightly on her
arm.
It was only a way of addressing each other. It didn’t really matter unless they accepted it in their hearts. If they started arguing about it, they would go back and forth forever and still get nowhere.
Sierra understood and changed the subject without hesitation. “You said it wasn’t an accident. What do you mean?“.
“It’s probably Charlie or his two sons,” Anna said, her gaze resting on Joey’s clean, youthful face.
“No wonder they say you’re a living legend,” Joey said, his words full of charm. “You guessed it in one try.”

Anna didn’t respond.
She had not come back to Harbor City unprepared.
The moment she chose to bring Sierra back, she had thought through every possible outcome and made her preparations accordingly. The basis of strategy was to understand exactly what the King family looked like at this moment in time.
Sierra still felt dazed. “Who’s Charlie?”
“Your grandfather’s eldest son,” Anna answered. “The current patriarch of the King family.”
