“Alright.” Sierra agreed to Anna’s request at once.

“Then I won’t bother you any longer.” Joey stood up, still looking good and youthful as ever. “If you ever need any information, you can contact me anytime. I’ll tell you everything I know.”

Anna did not respond. She knew very well that they were only using each other.

Joey did not mind, however. He smiled and said goodbye. “Alright, I’m heading out now, Sierra.”

Sierra blinked.

Only after Joey left did she start asking in more detail about what he had just revealed. “Mom, why did they want to hurt you?”

Anna told her the whole story about the company shares.

Her children could buy those shares back at the original sale price, but she herself was not allowed to get involved in any of the King family’s businesses. Once Sierra was officially tied to the shares, Anna would also no longer be allowed to step in or even offer advice.

Those people had most likely acted back then because they were worried that once Sierra had money of her own, she would buy the shares back. With John making a few moves, they were worried that the King Group would end up completely in their hands.

“They did that to you just for those shares? Aren’t you their younger sister?” Sierra couldn’t make sense of it.

“Blood bond means nothing to them.” Anna’s view of that family was ice–cold. “They can turn on anyone for profit.”

Sierra frowned. She had never imagined her mother had grown up in that kind of place.

“Then again, the shares I mentioned are worth tens of billions now,” Anna uttered the most shocking of revelations in a steady tone. “I believe they’ve gone up more than a hundredfold compared to the time when I sold them the shares.”

Sierra stared at her.

Tens of billions?

Her mouth fell open. “Then why did you sell?”

“They decided a woman like me shouldn’t be holding that many shares.” When Anna brought it up again, she was no longer feeling as emotional about it as she had at that time. “They used every trick in the book to force me. I was tired of fighting them. so I sold them.”

Sierra’s chest tightened as a storm of emotions swelled. She couldn’t imagine what her mother had gone through despite those simple sentences.

“With the way they are, they won’t let you get those shares so easily.” Anna knew them all too well. “Are you afraid?“

“I’m not.”

As soon as Sierra thought about how this meant taking back what had belonged to her mother, any tear she had disappeared,

Anna put her hand on Sierra’s head and gently ruffled her hair. She had never let Sierra study business or finance all this time, Beyond the reasons she had mentioned before, the more important one was that she did not want her to get tangled up with the King family.

If her daughter started learning those things, the Kings would definitely start plotting and scheming.

The money in Anna’s hands was enough for Sierra to live an easy, comfortable lite. There was no need to throw her into that

kind of ruthless world.

have been there for her.
