Chapter 432
“Sir,” Robin said to John as he set the medical kit on the back seat, still worried.
John removed his dark casual jacket, revealing his toned upper body. His wound was already bleeding through the gauze.
“Changing the dressing might hurt a little.” Robin opened the kit. He had already disinfected the inside of the car. “Just bear with it.”
Before they came, Robin was worried something might happen, so he had gone to the doctor and learned how to change the dressing. Good thing he had, though. Otherwise, the injury would have gotten worse by the time they got back.
“It’s fine. Do what you need to do.” John’s voice was hoarse.
He had endured the pain for the entire afternoon so Sierra and Tommy would not notice anything was wrong. This pain was nothing to him.
Robin started removing the gauze.
He had barely begun when someone knocked on the car window. John looked over and saw Nathan standing outside. 1
John raised his hand and was about to lower the window when Robin said in a worried tone, “Sir, the fewer people who know you’re hurt, the better.”
“This is Harbor City. Nothing much gets past the four major families,” John said; he knew that fact clearly. He cared little, however. “He already knows.”
Tonight’s dinner had made that obvious. Serving him food that could easily inflame the wound on purpose made it clear Nathan knew. The man was just paying him back for calling him out in front of Sierra.
The window was rolled down as Robin kept changing the dressing.
When Nathan saw the blood on the gauze, there was surprise in his eyes.
“How could you not take this chance? If Sierra had seen this, she would have maybe let go of some of her grudge and even
shown a little concern for you.”
Nathan had thought the injury was being exaggerated when he saw John was so calm the entire time in the afternoon. He hadn’t expected John was simply taking it all in.
“When you like someone, can you really stand letting her worry about you?” John asked.
“Usually no, but if I have to, I don’t mind playing the wounded gazelle for once,” Nathan said casually. “But if you try it, I’ll call you out right in front of them.”
John let Robin apply the medicine. “No wonder my mother–in–law doesn’t have the slightest lingering feelings for you.”
Nathan’s eyes darkened.
John kept going, each word hitting where it hurt. “You don’t seem to have much of a sense of responsibility a man should have.”
He would never willingly make Sierra worry about him, and he would never use an injury to manipulate her. If he ever did make her worry, it would mean that he had already lost control of both the situation and his emotions.
Like that argument at the hotel last time, and the moment the knife he pushed into himself.
“Solomon still doesn’t know you’re hurt,” Nathan said; his face darkened a little, deliberately trying to warn John. “Should I send someone to have him informed?”
John’s expression did not change. “Suit yourself.”
Nathan studied the man before him, while John simply met his gaze calmly.

Robin carefully cleaned the wound and changed the dressing as he held his breath. When he saw that the wound was simply bleeding and the stitches had not opened, he finally let out a sigh of relief.
“Do you think I wouldn’t?” Nathan still could not read John.
“You’re the head of one of Harbor City’s four major families and the chairman of Lynch Group.” John’s tone stayed calm. “Is there anything you wouldn’t do?”
Nathan said nothing.
