This was the second time Sierra had met the smartly dressed woman, but she was still struck by her beauty.

“Louisa.”

“Sorry to keep you waiting,” Louisa said as she sat down across from Sierra with a gentle smile.

The two of them exchanged a few polite words before Sierra went over what had happened at the hospital again. A few days had passed since they last discussed it on the phone.

“It’s fine. I only asked you to go and see if we could get something useful out of it.”

Louisa was not surprised by the outcome. After all, it was John they were dealing with here.

“Since you couldn’t reach an agreement, I’ll go to court tomorrow and file the complaint. Just follow my lead when it’s time.”

Sierra nodded. “Alright.”

“There’s one thing I need to make clear in advance, however,” Louisa said.

“Go ahead.” Sierra nodded.

“This could turn into a long battle. You need to be prepared for that.” Louisa wanted to lay it out early, in case Sierra broke down later. “He’s very likely to take action just to avoid the divorce.”

Sierra had already looked into it earlier as well. “I understand that.”

He could pretend not to see the court’s calls so the papers could not be served, drag things out until they had to notify him by public notice, then do something like challenge jurisdiction and insist on mediation.

Some of those tactics wouldn’t do much. They were only meant to stall. If he dragged out every step, the case might not even make it to court until a year later.

“Alright, then.” Louisa handed Sierra the documents she had prepared. “Take a look. If everything looks fine, I’ll start the

process tomorrow.”

Sierra flipped through them. “Looks good.”

“Good,” Louisa said with a nod.

They went over a few more details, and by the time they finished, it was already past eleven.

Sierra wanted to treat Louisa to lunch, but Louisa had another lunch appointment so she didn’t stay. Instead, she only reminded Sierra to be careful on her way back and to send a message once she got home safely.

Sierra nodded to everything.

After watching Louisa leave, Sierra unlocked her newly bought car.

The moment she sat down, the front passenger door was yanked open. Pamela slid in and buckled her seat belt as fast as she could,

Sierra was shocked.

Before Sierra could speak, Pamela cut in. “I’m here to talk to you about something. Once I’m done, I’ll get out. I won’t take much of your time.”

“Get out.” Sierra could still feel her heart beating fast.

She couldn’t even imagine what she would have done if the person getting in had been a murderer. She was sure she had checked both sides of the car before getting in and had not seen anyone.

“Can you quit acting so high and mighty like you’re better than everyone for once?” Pamela especially hated that attitude from Sierra. “I’m here because there’s something important to discuss!”

Sierra glanced at the time and said nothing.

This place was a little far from the police station, and calling the police over this felt like a waste of resources. She would bring Marcus along with her next time she went out.

“Have you thought about what I said last time?” Pamela brought the subject up again. “If you think five million dollars is too much, I can give up on the money. Just make sure John doesn’t bother me anymore.”

John had already agreed to pay her, and she had come to Sierra only as a backup plan.
