Chapter 438
John glanced at Pamela, his eyes flashing darkly, and said slowly, “Under normal circumstances, I could give it to you right now and we’d be done with each other from now on.”
“Then transfer the money to me.” Pamela wasn’t completely stupid. “And draft another contract to guarantee that the money is lawfully transferred. Once I leave Harbor City, there will be nothing left between us.”
John looked at her, his presence slowly filling the room. “I said, under normal circumstances.”
Pamela frowned. Her instincts told her something was wrong.
“Do you know Dr. Yates, who’s now in the ICU at Jade City Central Hospital?” John asked.
Pamela’s back stiffened. She denied it at once. “No.”
“You don’t know him, but you arranged to meet him at the mountain?” John exposed her in a single sentence.
“You investigated me?!” Pamela finally realized something was off.
She had wondered how the CEO of Henderson Group, the richest man on the Wealthiest List, could possibly not have twenty
million in cash.
So… He had used that time to look into her.
And she had actually believed he had sunk all his money into investments!
“If something feels weird, there’s probably a reason,” John said without hurry. “Any business person’s first instinct is to avoid
risk.”
Pamela’s hands were clenched at her sides.
John Henderson!
“Because you once saved my life, I won’t call the police.” John’s tone was gentle, but his aura was getting stronger. “It’s your choice whether you turn yourself in or wait for Dr. Yates to wake up and report you.”
Pamela’s chest heaved hard. Her disdain for him was at its peak.
John then added, “But I won’t become your accomplice.”

“I did arrange to meet Dr. Yates on the mountain, but something came up and I never made it there.” Pamely swallowed the storm of feelings in her chest down, careful not to give him anything to use against her. “What happened to him atter he fell has nothing to do with me.”
She had set things up in advance. Even if the police investigated, they wouldn’t be able to piece together the whole story.
“I never said he was in a coma because he fell.” John’s voice was now heavy, and Pamela felt a tightness in her chest.
What was wrong with this husband and wife?! Both of them loved setting verbal traps!
“You can go.” John told her to leave. “I won’t let you leave before Dr. Yates wakes up, and I won’t give you the money. If you’re a criminal, then giving it to you now would make me your accomplice.”
“Aren’t you afraid I’ll keep haunting you, so you and Sierra would never be happy for even one day?” Pamela’s hands were clenched tight now.
John looked her in the eye. “Do you really think you still have that chance?”
Pamela’s fingers dug deeper into her palms.
He had once told her that as long as it didn’t involve breaking the law, he would indulge her and let her do as she pleased.

But now…
“Of course I do. What happened to Dr. Yates has nothing to do with me.” She stuck to her denial. “If you don’t give it to me now, this amount won’t be enough later.”
“Then look at this.” John turned the laptop so the screen faced her.
Pamela’s eyes filled with suspicion, and a flicker of confusion passed through them.
She stepped closer. The moment she saw what was on the screen, her eyes opened wide.
How could this be…?
“Lucy found this.” John started to suspect Pamela really was hiding something once he saw her reaction. “I don’t care whether you went to him for scar removal or plastic surgery, but hurting someone over it…”
“I told you, it wasn’t me!” Pamela couldn’t stop the panic rising in her chest.
There was a probing look in John’s eyes. If it were something ordinary, she wouldn’t be this afraid. Aside from this incident, there probably wasn’t anything else criminal between her and Dr. Yates.
“I’m giving you a chance to tell the truth,” John said. “A few years ago, why did you go to Dr. Yates?”
